REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the retainer screws securing the dash trim panel below the steering wheel and column. Remove the cover and place aside.
  4.  
  5. Remove the retainer screws securing the vent tube to the bracket below the steering column. Detach the vent tube from the driver's vent and heater box.
  6.  
  7. Remove the return spring from the brake pedal and bracket.
  8.  
  9. Unfasten the pushpin, then remove the snap pin rod from the pedal assembly.
  10.  
  11. Loosen and remove the fulcrum pin nut and bolt. Remove the pedal assembly from the vehicle.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Position the pedal in the bracket assembly. Apply a light coating of grease to the fulcrum pin and install. Tighten the nut to 26 ft. lbs. (35 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Apply a light coating of grease to the snap pin rod and install. Secure in place with the push-pin.
  4.  
  5. Install the return spring.
  6.  
  7. Check and adjust the brake pedal, if needed.
  8.  
  9. Install the vent tube and secure with retainer screws.
  10.  
  11. Position and attach the dash trim panel below the steering column using retainer screws.
  12.  
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the retainer screws securing the lower trim panel below the steering wheel. Remove the panel and place aside.
  4.  
  5. Unfasten the electrical harness attached to the brake switch.
  6.  
  7. Remove the retainer clip from the brake pedal pin.
  8.  
  9. Remove the brake switch. Refer to the procedure in this section.
  10.  
  11. Remove the pushrod from the pedal assembly.
  12.  
  13. Remove the pedal retainer nut and bolt.
  14.  
  15. Remove the brake pedal, bushing and spacer.
  16.  

To install:
  1. Apply a light coating of grease to the bolt and inside of the bushing.
  2.  
  3. Position the brake pedal into place and install the bushing, spacer and retainer nut and bolt. Tighten the bolt to 32 ft. lbs. (44 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the pushrod, followed by the brake switch. Connect the brake switch harness.
  6.  
  7. Attach the retainer clip to the brake pedal pin.
  8.  
  9. Install the lower trim panel using the retainer screws.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.  
  13. Check for proper brake light functioning and pedal movement.
  14.
