REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

There are several types of antennae used on Isuzu vehicles. The first type is a single length mast type antenna mounted on the front fender. The second type is a power version of the fender-mount antenna. The last type is mounted in the windshield.

In the event a fender mount antenna becomes damaged or fails, either individual parts or the entire assembly can be replaced. In the case of the windshield mounted antenna, only the antenna cable can be replaced. If the antenna portion mounted in the windshield fails, the entire windshield most be replaced.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Remove the radio from the dash panel. Refer to the radio removal and installation procedure in Chassis Electrical of this repair guide. With the radio removed from the dash panel, unfasten the antenna connection from the back of the radio.
  4.
  5. Detach the antenna cable from under the dash panel retainer points until it is loose at the inner fender grommet.
  6.

WARNING
Never remove an antenna by pulling on the cable. Not only will this ruin the antenna cable, but it could also damage underdash wiring and components.

  1. Remove the fender inner liner from above the wheel and tire assembly by removing the retainer screws. If additional access room is needed, raise and support the vehicle on jackstands.
  2.
  3. Remove the rubber grommet from the inner fender, then remove the antenna cable.
  4.
  5. Remove the antenna mast by unscrewing it from the antenna base.
  6.
  7. Remove the antenna base retainer nut. Lower the antenna base out of the mounting hole.
  8.
  9. Clean the antenna contact surface on the fender. If any rust is present, remove and treat the effected area with a rust-proof type paint.
  10.

To install:
  1. Insert the antenna base through the mounting hole in the fender. Attach the plastic collar around the base and secure in place with the retainer nut.
  2.
  3. Feed the antenna cable through the hole in the inner fender, and install the rubber grommet.
  4.
  5. Install the antenna mast.
  6.
  7. Install the fender inner liner, securing in place with the retainer screws.
  8.
  9. From inside the vehicle, route the antenna cable through the dash panel, attaching it to the retainers, and out the radio opening in the center of the panel assembly. Connect the antenna to the back of the radio.
  10.

CAUTION
When routing the antenna cable, be careful to keep the cable away from the pedal assembly and any moving parts. Failure to do some could cause serious injury.

  1. Install the radio to the dash panel.
  2.
  3. Connect the negative battery cable. Test the radio for proper functioning.

TRIM ADJUSTMENT

Once a new antenna is installed, the radio may need to be trimmed to improve radio reception. The trim adjustment is located on the back panel of the radio. Set the radio to a weak AM station around 1400 on the dial. Use a trim adjusting tool to fine tune the radio for the best reception.
