  1. Remove the spare tire from the carrier.
  2.  
  3. Remove the spare tire rack-to-panel retainer bolts.
  4.  

Depending on model and production date, the spare tire rack retainer bolts may be regular type bolts or Torx® type bolts requiring special tools for their removal and installation.

  1. Lift off the spare tire rack.
  2.  
  3. Clean the tire rack contact surface on the panel. If any rust is present, remove and treat the effected area with a rust-proof type paint.
  4.  

To install:
  1. Position the tire rack to the rear panel, and install the retainer bolts. Tighten the bolts to 23 ft. lbs. (31 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the spare tire, and tighten the tire retainer bolts to 87 ft. lbs. (118 Nm).
  4.

  1. Remove the spare tire from the carrier.
  2.  
  3. Make sure the tire rack is in the locked position.
  4.  
  5. Remove the spare tire rack-to-rear panel retainer bolts.
  6.  

Depending on model and production date, the spare tire rack retainer bolts may be regular type bolts or Torx® type bolts requiring special tools for their removal and installation.

  1. Release the lock and lift off the spare tire rack.
  2.  
  3. Clean the tire rack contact surface on the panel. If any rust is present, remove and treat the effected area with a rust-proof type paint.
  4.  

To install:
  1. Position the tire rack to the rear panel, and install the retainer bolts hand-tight. Rotate the assembly until it locks into place.
  2.  
  3. With the tire rack locked in place, tighten the bolts to 31 ft. lbs. (42 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Remove the grease filler cap and apply lithium-based grease to the filler hole on the assembly.
  6.  
  7. Install the spare tire, and tighten the tire retainer bolts to 87 ft. lbs. (118 Nm).
  8.  

Before driving the vehicle, make sure the tire rack is fully engaged in the locked position.
