Outside Mirrors

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



There are 2 types of outside mirrors used on Isuzu vehicles. The first type has the mounting screws accessible from the outside of the vehicle. The second type of outside mirror has mounting screws accessible from the inside of the vehicle only. This design requires the removal of the inner door panel and trim.

Door Mounted

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the screw-on bezel around the interior panel mounted remote mirror control cable assembly, if equipped. Push the control knob through the mounting hole into the door.
  4.  
  5. Using a small prytool, remove the trim cover over the retainer screws at the base of the mirror.
  6.  
  7. While supporting the mirror with 1 hand, remove the retainer screws from the mirror and door. If equipped with a power mirror, pull the mirror away from the door and unfasten the wire harness fro the base of the mirror.
  8.  
  9. Remove the mirror and rubber gasket from between the door and mirror base.
  10.  
  11. Inspect the rubber gasket, and replace if torn or excessively cracked. Clean the mirror contact surface on the door. If any rust is present, remove and treat the effected area with a rust-proof type paint.
  12.  

To install:
  1. If equipped with power mirrors, attach the control harness to the base of the mirror.
  2.  
  3. If equipped with a cable driven mirror, feed the cable control assembly through the hole in the door, and position in the mounting hole in the interior panel. Secure in place using the retainer bezel. On some models, it may be necessary to remove the door panel in order to attach the control assembly to the door panel.
  4.  
  5. Position the mirror on the door with the rubber gasket between the mirror and door surface. Secure in place using the retainer screws. Tighten the screws to 4-6 ft. lbs. (5-8 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the trim panel over the retainer screws.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  

Window Mounted

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the interior door panel. Refer to the procedure in this section for removal and installation steps.
  4.  
  5. Remove the retainer screw from the trim panel at the front corner of the window covering the mirror retainer screws.
  6.  


WARNING
Be careful on models with remote mounted speakers on the mirror trim panel. Do not pull the panel out too far or the wires could be torn off.

  1. If equipped with remote mounted speakers on the trim panel, remove the panel and disconnect the speaker wire harness from the back of the panel.
  2.  
  3. While supporting the mirror with 1 hand, remove the mirror retainer screws. Lower the mirror, and if equipped with power mirrors, disconnect the mirror control harness.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rubber gasket from between the door and mirror base.
  6.  
  7. Inspect the rubber gasket,and replace if torn or excessively cracked. Clean the mirror contact surface on the door. If any rust is present, remove and treat the effected area with a rust-proof type paint.
  8.  

To install:
  1. Attach the mirror control harness to the mirror.
  2.  
  3. Position the mirror on the door with the rubber gasket between the mirror and door surface. While holding the mirror in place with 1 hand, secure using the retainer screws. Tighten the screws to 4-6 ft. lbs. (5-8 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the trim panel over the mirror screws, securing in place with the retainer screw. If equipped with remote mounted speakers on the panel, connect the wire harness before installing the panel.
  6.  
  7. Install the interior door panel.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.
