Print

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

2.2L Engine

See Figure 1

  1. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the regulator.
  4.
  5. Remove the fuel return pipe clamp.
  6.
  7. Remove the fuel return pipe from the regulator and discard the old O-ring.
  8.
  9. Remove the pressure regulator attaching screw, then remove the regulator and discard the O-ring.
  10.

To install:
  1. If the old pressure regulator is being installed, check the filter screen (if equipped) for contamination and replace, if necessary.
  2.
  3. Lubricate the new O-rings with clean engine oil, then install them on the pressure regulator and fuel pipe.
  4.
  5. Install the pressure regulator onto the manifold.
  6.
  7. Coat the regulator attaching screw threads with Loctite®262 or an equivalent threadlocking compound, then install and tighten the screws to 31 inch lbs. (3.5 Nm).
  8.
  9. Connect the vacuum hose to the regulator.
  10.
  11. Make sure the new O-ring is in position, then connect the fuel return pipe to the pressure regulator and tighten to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
  12.
  13. Install the fuel return pipe clamp and attaching nut to the lower intake manifold assembly.
  14.
  15. Connect the negative battery cable, then pressurize the fuel system by cycling the ignition (without attempting to start the engine) and check for leaks.

Except 2.2L Engine

See Figure 2

  1. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the regulator.
  4.
  5. Disconnect the fuel hoses or pipes from the regulator. If a pipe is used, use a back-up and flare nut wrench to avoid twisting the tube.
  6.
  7. If applicable, remove any retaining hardware securing the regulator, then remove the regulator from the vehicle.
  8.

To install:
  1. If the old pressure regulator is being installed, check the filter screen (if equipped) for contamination and replace, if necessary.
  2.
  3. Lubricate new O-rings with clean engine oil, then install them on the pressure regulator.
  4.
  5. Place the pressure regulator in position. If applicable, coat the regulator attaching screw threads with Loctite®262 or an equivalent threadlocking compound. Install and tighten the attaching hardware until snug.
  6.
  7. Connect the vacuum hose to the regulator.
  8.
  9. Connect the fuel pipes or hoses to the pressure regulator. If hoses are used, use new clamps.
  10.
  11. Connect the negative battery cable, then pressurize the fuel system by cycling the ignition (without attempting to start the engine) and check for leaks.
