REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Pull Handle Type

  1. Block the wheels, and place the transmission in PARK if equipped with an automatic transmission, or a forward gear if equipped with a manual transmission.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the trim panel below the steering column.
  6.  
  7. With the brake in the fully released position, loosen the cable adjuster nut.
  8.  
  9. Remove the front brake cable.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the brake light switch harness.
  12.  
  13. Remove the front and rear retainer bolts securing the handle assembly in place.
  14.  
  15. Lower the assembly to remove it from the vehicle.
  16.  

To install:
  1. Position the handle assembly in place and secure with the retainer bolts. Tighten the bolts to 13-16 ft. lbs. (17-21 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Attach the brake light switch harness to the switch on the handle assembly.
  4.  
  5. Attach the brake cable to the rear of the handle assembly. Adjust the brake cable tension.
  6.  
  7. Install the trim panel below the steering column.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  
  11. Engage and release the brake handle to test for smooth operation.
  12.  

Center Console Type

  1. Block the wheels, and place the transmission in PARK if equipped with an automatic transmission, or a forward gear if equipped with a manual transmission.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the center console from the vehicle. Refer to the procedure in General Information & Maintenance 0 for details.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the brake light switch harness from the side of the lever assembly.
  8.  
  9. With the brake lever in the fully released position, loosen and remove the cable adjuster nut.
  10.  
  11. Remove the retainer bolts securing the brake assembly to the floor of the vehicle.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Position the brake assembly to the floor of the vehicle and secure in place with the retainer bolts. Tighten the bolts to 13 ft. lbs. (17 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the brake cable through the bracket and secure with the adjuster nut. Adjust the brake cable tension.
  4.  
  5. Attach the brake light switch harness.
  6.  
  7. Install the center console.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  
  11. Engage and release the brake handle to test for smooth operation.
  12.  

Pedal Type

  1. Block the wheels, and place the transmission in PARK if equipped with an automatic transmission, or a forward gear if equipped with a manual transmission.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the brake switch harness from the rear of the assembly.
  6.  
  7. With the brake lever in the fully released position, loosen the cable adjuster nut.
  8.  
  9. Remove the release handle retainer screws and allow the handle to hang free.
  10.  
  11. Remove the retainer bolts securing the brake assembly to the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Remove the brake cable from the pedal assembly and remove the pedal assembly from the vehicle.
  14.  

To install:
  1. Attach the brake cable to the pedal assembly.
  2.  
  3. Position the pedal assembly and secure in place with the retainer bolts. Tighten the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Attach the brake light harness to the pedal assembly switch.
  6.  
  7. Install the release handle to the dash panel and secure in place with the retainer screws.
  8.  
  9. Adjust the brake cable tension.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.  
  13. Engage and release the brake handle to test for smooth operation.
  14.
