Fuel Temperature Sensor

Operation



The fuel temperature sensor is used to detect the fuel temperature inside the fuel tank. The sensor modifies a voltage signal from the ECM. The modified signal returns to the ECM as the fuel temperature input. The sensor uses a thermistor which is sensitive to the change in temperature. The electrical resistance of the thermistor decreases as temperature increases.

Testing



  1. Remove the fuel temperature sensor.
  2.  
  3. Check the resistance of the fuel temperature sensor by immersing the sensor in hot water (or using a hot gun) and measuring the results.
  4.  
  5. At 68°F, resistance should be 2.3-2.7 kohms.
  6.  
  7. At 122°F, resistance should be 0.79-0.90 kohms.
  8.  
  9. If neither of these results are found, replace the fuel tank temperature sensor
  10.  

  1. Check the resistance of the fuel temperature sensor by immersing the sensor in hot water and measuring the results.
