Operation



The knock sensor senses engine knocking using a plezoelectric element. A knocking vibration from the cylinder block is sensed as a vibration pressure. This pressure is converted into a voltage signal and sent to the ECM. Freeze frame data will not be stored in the ECM for the knock sensor. The MIL will not light for a knock sensor malfunction, but the sensor has one trip detection logic.

Testing



  1. Disconnect the knock sensor harness connector.
  2.  
  3. Check the resistance between terminal 2 and ground. Resistance should read approximately 500-620 kohms at 77°F.
    NOTE
    Do not use any knock sensors that have been dropped or physically damaged.

  4.  

  1. Disconnect the knock sensor harness connector.
  2.  
  3. Check the resistance between terminal 1 and ground. Resistance should read approximately 532-588 kohms at 68°F.
    NOTE
    Do not use any knock sensors that have been dropped or physically damaged.

  2.  
  3. Check the resistance between terminal 2 and ground. Resistance should read approximately 500-620 kohms at 77°F.

    Do not use any knock sensors that have been dropped or physically damaged.
