Removal & Installation



A/C Compressor Belt
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the undercover.
  6.  
  7. Loosen the idler pulley locknut (C).
  8.  
  9. Remove the belt.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
    NOTE
    Be sure the belt is correctly engaged with the pulley groove.

  2.  
  3. Adjust the belt tension.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the locknut (C) to 26 ft. lbs.
  6.  

Alternator & Power Steering Belt
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the undercover.
  6.  
  7. Loosen the idler pulley locknut (A).
  8.  
  9. Remove the belt.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
    NOTE
    Be sure the belt is correctly engaged with the pulley groove.

  2.  
  3. Adjust the belt tension.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the locknut (A) to 26 ft. lbs.
  6.  

Alternator Water Pump And A/C Compressor Belt
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the air duct (inlet).
  6.  
  7. Using a box wrench, and while holding the hexagonal part in the center pulley of the auto tensioner, move the wrench handle in the direction of the arrow. This will loosen the tensioner.
    NOTE
    Avoid placing your hand in a location where pinching may occur if the holding tool accidentally comes off.

  9. Under the above condition, insert a metal bar about 0.24 inch (6 mm) in diameter through the holding boss to lock the auto tensioner pulley arm.
    NOTE
    Leave the auto tensioner pulley arm locked until the belt is installed again.

  10.  
  11. Remove the drive belt.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
    NOTE
    Be sure the belt is correctly engaged with the pulley groove.

  2.  
  3. Unlock the auto tensioner pulley arm to put tension on the belt.
  4.  
  5. Rotate the crankshaft pulley several turns clockwise to equalize the belt tension between the pulleys.
  6.  
  7. Check to ensure that the belt tension is within specification.
  8.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the air duct (inlet).
  6.  
  7. Remove the engine undercover.
  8.  
  9. Remove the drive belts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the auto tensioner and idler pulley.
    NOTE
    Keep the auto tensioner pulley arm locked to remove the auto tensioner assembly.

  12.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
    NOTE
    Be sure the belt is correctly engaged with the pulley groove.

  2.  
  3. Unlock the auto tensioner pulley arm to put tension on the belt.
  4.  
  5. Rotate the crankshaft pulley several turns clockwise to equalize the belt tension between the pulleys.
  6.  
  7. Check to ensure that the belt tension is within specification.
  8.  

Power Steering Pump Belt
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the air duct (inlet).
  6.  
  7. Remove the alternator, water pump and A/C belt.
  8.  
  9. Using a box wrench, and while holding the hexagonal part in the center pulley of the auto tensioner, move the wrench handle in the direction of the arrow. This will loosen the tensioner.
    NOTE
    Avoid placing your hand in a location where pinching may occur if the holding tool accidentally comes off.
