Removal & Installation
Motor

NOTE
Before removing the sunroof motor the vehicle headliner will first have to be removed.

G20

NOTE
The manufacturer does not provide removal and installation procedures for this operation.

G35

When removing the motor be sure that the sunroof is in the fully open position. Never run the removed motor as a single unit. After removing the motor do not attempt to rotate it as a single unit.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Position the sunroof in the fully open position.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Remove the headliner. Disconnect the harness electrical connector.
  8.  
  9. Remove the motor retaining screw.
  10.  
  11. Remove the motor from its mounting.
  12.  

To install:


NOTE
Before installing the motor, be sure to place the link and wire assembly in the symmetrical and fully closed position.

  1. Move the motor laterally a little at a time so that the gear is completely engaged into the wire on the sunroof unit and the mounting surface becomes parallel.
  2.  
  3. Secure the retaining bolts.
  4.  
  5. Connect the wiring harness.
  6.  
  7. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
  8.  
  9. Perform the sunroof initialization procedure.
    NOTE
    If the sunroof does not close or open automatically perform the initialization procedure.

  10.  
  11. Position the sunroof in the closed position. It may be necessary to repeatedly push the switch to close the sunroof.
  12.  
  13. Press and hold the TILT UP switch. Do not release the switch, keep pressure on it. After 10 seconds of depressing the switch, the sunroof will tilt upward, then downward. Release the button.
  14.  
  15. Press and hold the TILT UP switch again. Do not release the switch, keep pressure on it. While depressing the switch the sunroof will slide open, slide closed, tilt up and tilt down. Release the button after the sunroof tilts downward and stops.
  16.  
  17. The initialization procedure is complete. Confirm proper operation and correct as required.

    NOTE

  11. Position the sunroof in the closed position. It may be necessary to repeatedly push the switch to close the sunroof.
  12.  
  13. Press the CLOSE switch or the TILT switch to close for about 1 second or more.
  14.  
  15. Operate the sunroof switch and make sure that the auto operation functions performs properly.

2002-2005

  3. Position the sunroof in the fully open position.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. remove the rear seat.
  8.  
  9. Remove the body side welt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the front pillar and center pillar garnish.
  12.  
  13. Remove the assist grip.
    NOTE
    To remove the grip, insert a small pry tool into the dip on the mask, pull it back to your side, remove it and remove the retaining screws (one on the left and one on the right).

  14.  
  15. Remove the map light and sunroof switch. Disconnect the wiring harness.
  16.  
  17. Remove the side lamp and disconnect the harness connector.
  18.  
  19. Remove both sun visors.
  20.  
  21. Remove the sunroof welt.
  22.  
  23. Disengage the clips at the rear headliner and set its seat back down backward.
  24.  
  25. Slide the headliner forward and disconnect the hooks.
  26.  
  27. Remove the headliner, through the left rear door.
  28.  
  29. Remove the motor retaining screw.
  30.  
  31. Remove the motor from its mounting.
  32.  
  33. Disconnect the motor electrical connector.
  34.  

To install:

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Carefully pry upward on the switch assembly.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the switch assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the switch assembly.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  

G35
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Carefully pry upward on the switch assembly.
  6.
