Brake Caliper

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheels.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the brake hose connecting bolt.
  6.  
  7. Remove the bolts connecting the caliper to the torque member.
  8.  
  9. Slide the caliper out from the rotor.
  10.  
  11. Remove the brake hose connecting bolt from the caliper.
  12.  
  13. Remove the caliper from the vehicle.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Fit the caliper onto the torque member and torque the bolts to 16-23 ft. lbs. (22-31 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Using new copper washers, connect the hydraulic hose to the caliper. Torque the union bolt to 12-14 ft. lbs. (17-19 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Bleed the air from the system.
  6.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front wheels.
  4.  
  5. Remove both guide pin bolts securing the caliper to the steering knuckle.
  6.  
  7. Loosen and remove the brake hose connector from the caliper.
  8.  
  9. Remove the caliper assembly from the vehicle.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Using new copper washers, install the brake line to the brake caliper and torque the connecting bolt to 12-14 ft. lbs. (17-20 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the caliper to the steering knuckle using the guide pins bolts.
  4.  
  5. Install the wheels and tighten the lug nuts to the proper specification.
  6.  
  7. Bleed the brake system and top off the master cylinder as necessary.
  8.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheels.
  4.  
  5. Remove the brake hose connecting bolt.
  6.  
  7. Remove the torque member mounting bolts and disconnect the brake fluid hose from the caliper.
  8.  
  9. Slide the caliper off of the rotor.
  10.  
  11. Remove the caliper from the vehicle.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Position the torque member on the knuckle assembly and install the mounting bolts. Torque the bolts to 118-137 ft. lbs. (160-186 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Using new copper washers, connect the hydraulic hose to the caliper. Torque the union bolt to 12-14 ft. lbs. (17-19 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Bleed the air from the system and fill the master cylinder with clean brake fluid.
  6.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheels.
  4.  
  5. Remove the brake hose connecting bolt.
  6.  
  7. Remove the torque member mounting bolts and disconnect the brake fluid hose from the caliper.
  8.  
  9. Slide the caliper off of the rotor.
  10.  
  11. Remove the caliper from the vehicle.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Position the torque member on the knuckle assembly and install the mounting bolts. Torque the bolts to 102-122 ft. lbs. (138-166 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Using new copper washers, connect the hydraulic hose to the caliper. Torque the union bolt to 12-14 ft. lbs. (17-19 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Bleed the air from the system and fill the master cylinder with clean brake fluid.
  6.

  3. Remove the wheels.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the brake hose connecting bolt.
  6.  
  7. Remove the bolts connecting the caliper to the torque member.
  8.  
  9. Slide the caliper out from the rotor.
  10.  
  11. Remove the brake hose connecting bolt from the caliper.
  12.  
  13. Remove the caliper from the vehicle.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Fit the caliper onto the torque member and torque the bolts to 16-23 ft. lbs. (22-31 Nm).

  3. Using new copper washers, connect the hydraulic hose to the caliper. Torque the union bolt to 12-14 ft. lbs. (17-19 Nm).

  5. Bleed the air from the system.

  13. Remove the caliper from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Fit the caliper onto the torque member and torque the bolts to 16-23 ft. lbs. (22-31 Nm).

  1. Using new copper washers, install the brake line to the brake caliper Refer to the accompanying illustrations for torque values and procedures.

  3. Install the caliper to the steering knuckle using the guide pins bolts.

  5. Install the wheels and tighten the lug nuts to the proper specification.
  6.  
  7. Bleed the brake system and top off the master cylinder as necessary.

  6.

  1. Position the torque member on the knuckle assembly and install the mounting bolts. Refer to the accompanying illustrations for torque values and procedures.

  3. Using new copper washers, connect the hydraulic hose to the caliper. Torque the union bolt to 12-14 ft. lbs. (17-19 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Bleed the air from the system and fill the master cylinder with clean brake fluid.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.

  3. Remove the wheels.
  4.  
  5. Remove the brake hose connecting bolt.
  6.  
  7. Remove the torque member mounting bolts and disconnect the brake fluid hose from the caliper.
  8.  
  9. Slide the caliper off of the rotor.
  10.  
  11. Remove the caliper from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Position the torque member on the knuckle assembly and install the mounting bolts. Refer to the accompanying illustrations for torque values and procedures.
  2.  
  3. Using new copper washers, connect the hydraulic hose to the caliper. Torque the union bolt to 12-14 ft. lbs. (17-19 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Bleed the air from the system and fill the master cylinder with clean brake fluid.
  6.  

With Brembo Brakes

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front wheels.
  4.  
  5. Remove brake pads (Refer to Disc Brake Pads, Removal and Installation).
  6.  
  7. Remove brake tube flare nut using a flare wrench.
  8.  
  9. Remove brake tube bracket from knuckle.
  10.  
  11. Remove caliper bolts and remove the caliper.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install caliper assembly to vehicle, and tighten bolts to 113-114 ft. lbs. (152.1-154.9 Nm).
    WARNING
    When attaching the caliper assembly to vehicle, wipe any oil off knuckle spindle washers and caliper assembly attachment surfaces.

  2.  
  3. Install brake tube to the caliper assembly and partially tighten flare nut.
  4.  
  5. Install brake tube bracket to knuckle spindle and tighten to 8-11 ft. lbs. (10.8-15.6 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Using a flare nut torque wrench, tighten the caliper assembly and brake tube connection flare nut to 11-12 ft. lbs. (14.8-17.6 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install brake pads (Refer to Disc Brake Pads, Removal and Installation).
  10.  
  11. Install the wheels and tighten the lug nuts to the proper specification.
  12.  
  13. Bleed the brake system and top off the master cylinder as necessary.
  14.  

With Standard Brakes
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front wheels.
  4.  
  5. Remove both guide pin bolts securing the caliper to the steering knuckle.
  6.  
  7. Loosen and remove the brake hose connector from the caliper.
  8.  
  9. Remove the caliper assembly from the vehicle.
  10.
