  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Loosen the parking brake cable.
  4.  
  5. Depress the brake pedal fully more than five times.
  6.  
  7. Operate the control lever ten times or more with a full stroke (8.01 inch).
  8.  
  9. Adjust the control lever by turning the adjusting nut.
  10.  
  11. Pull the control lever with a fair amount of force. Check the lever stroke and ensure smooth operation. (number of notches 6-7, force 44 lbs.).
  12.  
  13. Bend the warning lamp switch plate.
    NOTE
    The warning lamp should come on when the lever is pulled 1 notch and go off when the lever is fully released.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  4.  
  5. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  6.  
  7. Insert a deep-well socket wrench to rotate the adjusting nut to loosen the cable sufficiently.
  8.  
  9. Release the parking brake pedal/lever completely.
  10.  
  11. Adjust the clearance of the rear shoes.
  12.  
  13. Remove the adjuster hole plug. Using a flat bladed tool, turn the adjuster clockwise until it is locked.
  14.  
  15. After locking, turn it in the opposite direction 5-6 notches.
  16.  
  17. Rotate the disk rotor to be sure there is no drag. Install the adjuster plug.
  18.  
  19. Adjust the other side. After adjustment is complete, adjust the parking brake cable.
  20.  
  21. Operate the parking brake pedal ten or more times with a force of 66 inch lbs. (294 N).
  22.  
  23. Depress the parking brake pedal/lever until a deep-well socket can be inserted. Rotate the adjust nut to adjust a pedal/lever stroke to the specified notches. Foot lever type specification is 2-3 notches. Hand lever type specification is 6-7 notches.
    NOTE
    Do not reuse the adjusting nut after removing it.

  25. After operating the parking brake 3-4 times with a force of 44 lbs. (196 N), make sure that the stroke is within the specified notches.
  26.  
  27. With the parking brake completely returned, make sure that there is no drag on the rear brakes.

    Be sure that there is no drag when the control lever is released. Be sure that the toggle lever returns to the stopper when the parking brake pedal is released.

NOTE
On vehicles equipped with parking drum brake, perform shoe clearance adjustment before adjusting the parking brake control. To adjust the shoe clearance, remove the adjuster hole plug and turn the adjuster downward with a brake adjusting tool. Return the adjuster wheel 5-6 latches. Install the adjuster plug. Check the drag on the wheel assembly to be sure there is no drag when rotating the wheel assembly.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.

  3. Make sure that the parking brake lever is fully released.
  4.  
  5. Release the barking brake pedal and loosen the adjusting nut.
  6.  
  7. Adjust the parking brake cable by turning the adjusting nut.
  8.  
  9. Depress the parking brake pedal several times with a specified amount of force. Check the pedal stroke to ensure smooth operation. Specification should be 3.36-4.06 inch.
    NOTE
    Warning lamp will illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed 1.14 inch or less.
