  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
    CAUTION
The air bag system must be disarmed before removing the steering wheel. Failure to do so may cause accidental deployment, property damage or personal injury.

  2.
  3. Point the front tires straight ahead and lock the steering in this position.
  4.
  5. Remove the air bag module. Remove the spiral cable.
  6.
  7. Remove the steering wheel retaining nut.
  8.
  9. Using a steering wheel removal tool, remove the steering wheel.
  10.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.
  3. Tighten the steering wheel retaining nut to 22-29 ft. lbs.
  4.
  5. Be sure the front wheels are in the straight position.
  6.
  7. Be sure to align the spiral cable correctly when installing the steering wheel. Make sure that the spiral cable is in the neutral position.
    NOTE
The neutral position is detected by turning to the left 2.5 revolutions from the right end position and ending with the knob at the top. The spiral cable may snap due to steering operation if the cable is installed incorrectly. Also, with the steering linkage disconnected the cable may snap by turning the steering wheel beyond the limited number of turns (2.5 from the neutral position to both the left and right). The spiral cable may snap due to the steering operation if the cable is installed in an improper position.
