Removal & Installation



3.5L Engine

NOTE
Never remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. Serious burns could occur from high-pressure engine coolant escaping from the radiator.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the air duct (inlet), power duct and air cleaner case assembly.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the harness connector from the fan motors. Move the harness aside.
  8.  
  9. Remove the radiator cooling fan assembly retaining bolts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the assembly from the vehicle.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Be sure to fill the radiator with the proper grade and type engine coolant.
  4.  
  5. Start the engine and check for leaks. Correct as required.

4.5L Engine
Crankshaft Driven Type

NOTE
Never remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. Serious burns could occur from high-pressure engine coolant escaping from the radiator.

  1. Be sure the engine is cold.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the air duct (inlet).
  6.  
  7. Remove the lower radiator shroud.
  8.  
  9. Remove the drive belt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the cooling fan retaining bolts.
  12.  
  13. Remove the cooling fan from its mounting.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Be sure to install the fan with its front mark F facing the front of the engine.
  4.  
  5. Be sure to refill the cooling using the proper grade and type engine coolant.
  6.  
  7. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  8.  
  9. Start the engine and allow it to reach operation temperature. Recheck the coolant level, fill as required.

Motor Driven Type

NOTE

  1. Be sure the engine is cold.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front grille.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the harness connector from the fan motor.
  8.  
  9. Remove the fan assembly retaining bolts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the fan assembly from the vehicle.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Be sure to refill the cooling using the proper grade and type engine coolant.
  4.  
  5. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  6.  
  7. Start the engine and allow it to reach operation temperature. Recheck the coolant level, fill as required.
