  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.
  3. Situate vehicle on a flat and solid surface.
  4.
  5. Place chocks at front and back of rear wheels.
  6.
  7. For engines not equipped with engine slingers, attach proper slingers and bolts. Tighten the slinger bolts to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm).
    CAUTION
Always use the support point specified for lifting. Use either a 2-point lift type or a separate type lift as best you can. If a board-on type is used for unavoidable reasons, support at the rear axle jacking point with a transmission jack or similar tool before starting work. The rear axle jacking point needs to be supported since the center of gravity will shift rearward once the engine assembly is removed.

  8.

The engine and transmission assembly are removed from the vehicle with the suspension member from the underside of the vehicle. After removal, separate the engine from the transmission.

  1. Release the fuel system pressure.
  2.
  3. Disconnect both battery terminals.
  4.
  5. Remove the engine cover, battery cover and both front wheel/tire assemblies.
  6.
  7. Remove the front and rear engine under covers and front cross bar.
  8.
  9. Drain the engine coolant from the radiator.
  10.
  11. On AWD models, remove the clips of the hood ledge cover and remove the hood ledge cover.
  12.
  13. On AWD models, remove both wiper arms. Operate the wiper motor, and stop it at the auto stop position. Then, remove the washer tube from the washer tube joint. Remove the wiper arm mounting nuts and wiper arms from the vehicle.
  14.
  15. Remove the air duct and air cleaner assembly.
  16.
  17. Remove the radiator hoses.
  18.
  19. Disconnect and plug the chassis-end of the heater hose.
  20.
  21. Disconnect the chassis/left bank cylinder head ground wire.
  22.
  23. Disconnect and tag all engine wiring harness connectors.
  24.
  25. Disconnect the A/C tubing from the A/C compressor, and fasten it to the inside of the engine compartment with rope or strong cord.
  26.
  27. Disconnect the two chassis ground cables.
  28.
  29. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose.
  30.
  31. Disconnect and plug the fuel feed hose and EVAP hose.
  32.
  33. Remove the power steering oil pump reservoir tank and tubing from the chassis, and fasten them onto the engine.
    NOTE
When securing the power steering tubing to the engine, situate it so that the open end is pointed up to avoid a fluid leak.

  34.
  35. Disconnect the engine compartment wiring harness connectors from the passenger compartment, as follows:
    1. Remove the passenger-side kick plate, dashboard side trim, and glove box.
    2.
    3. Disconnect the engine compartment wiring harness connectors from the ECM.
    4.
    5. Disengage the intermediate fixing point. Pull the engine compartment wiring harnesses through to the engine compartment and fasten them to the engine.
      CAUTION
Be careful not to damage the wiring harness when pulling it out of the passenger compartment. Also, cover the wiring harness connectors to prevent dirt or other material from contaminating the connector openings.

    6.

  36.
  37. Remove the A/T fluid cooler hoses and power steering oil pump oil cooler hoses.
  38.
  39. Remove the front exhaust pipe.
  40.
  41. Disconnect the lower steering joint, and disengage the steering shaft.
  42.
  43. Disconnect the driveshaft from the transmission.
  44.
  45. Disconnect the shift control linkage from selector lever, then secure it onto the transmission so that it doesn-t hang free.
  46.
  47. Remove the rear plate cover from the upper oil pan. Remove the bolts holding the flexplate to the torque converter.
  48.
  49. Remove the mounting bolts from the transmission to the lower rear side of the upper oil pan.
  50.

  67. Carefully lower the jack to remove engine, transmission, and suspension member assembly. While performing this, observe the following:

Confirm there is no interference with vehicle.

Make sure all connection points have been disconnected.

Keep in mind the center of vehicle gravity changes.

If necessary, use jackstands to support the vehicle at the rear jacking point(s) to prevent it from falling off the lift.

  68.
  69. Install engine slingers/supports into the front of the right bank cylinder head and the rear of the left bank cylinder head.
  70.
  71. Remove the power steering oil pump from the engine.
  72.
  73. Remove the engine mounting insulator bottom nut.
  74.
  75. Lifting with a hoist, separate the engine and transmission assembly from the suspension member.
    CAUTION
Before and during lifting, always check whether any wiring harnesses are still connected. Also, avoid damage to and oil/grease contacting the engine mounting insulator.

  76.
  77. On AWD models, remove both front halfshafts.
  78.
  79. Remove the alternator.
