## Inspection

3.5L Engine
1. Remove the oil pump from the engine.

3. Remove the oil pump cover.
4.
5. Remove the inner and outer rotors from the oil pump body.
6.
7. Remove the regulator plug, regulator spring and regulator valve.
8.
9. Measure the oil pump clearance using a feeler gauge. Body to outer rotor (position 1) should be 0.0045 - 0.0102 inch. Inner rotor to outer rotor (position 2) should be 0.0071 inch.

11. Measure the clearance using a feeler gauge. Side clearance between the inner rotor and the pump body (position 3) should be 0.0012 - 0.0028 inch. Side clearance between the outer rotor and the pump body (position 4) should be 0.0020 - 0.0043 inch.

13. Calculate the clearance between the inner rotor and the oil pump body as follows.

15. Measure the inner diameter of the oil pump body with an inside micrometer (position 5). Measure the outer diameter of the oil pump inner rotor with a micrometer (position 6).

17. Calculate the oil pump inner rotor to oil pump body clearance using the following formula. Clearance=Inner diameter of oil pump body-Outer diameter of inner rotor. Inner rotor to brazed portion of housing clearance specification is 0.0018 - 0.0036 inch. If not within specification, replace the oil pump.

19. Check the regulator valve to oil pump cover clearance using the following formula. Clearance=(valve hole diameter)- (outer diameter of valve). Regulator valve to oil pump specification should be 0.0016 - 0.0038 inch.
NOTE
Coat the valve with clean engine oil. Check that it falls smoothly into the regulator valve hole by its own weight.

21. Assemble the oil pump in the reverse order.

23. Install the inner and outer rotor with the punched marks on the oil pump cover side.

4.5L Engine
1. Remove the oil pump from the engine.
2.
3. Remove the oil pump cover.
4.
5. Remove the inner and outer rotors from the oil pump body.
6.
7. Remove the regulator plug, regulator spring and regulator valve.
8.
9. Measure the radial clearance using a feeler gauge. Body to outer rotor (position 1) should be 0.0045 - 0.0079 inch. Inner rotor to outer tip (position 2) should be 0.0071 inch.

11. Measure the side clearance using a feeler gauge. Body to inner rotor (position 3) should be 0.0012 - 0.0028 inch. Body to outer rotor (position 4) should be 0.0012 - 0.0035 inch.

13. Calculate the clearance between the inner rotor and the oil pump body as follows.

15. Measure the outer diameter of the protruded portion of the inner rotor (position 5) using a feeler gauge. Measure the inner diameter of the oil pump body to the brazed portion (position 6) using a feeler gauge. Calculate the clearance using the following formula. Clearance=Inner diameter of oil pump body-Outer diameter of inner rotor. Inner rotor to brazed portion of housing clearance specification is 0.0018 - 0.0036 inch.

17. Check the regulator valve to oil pump cover clearance using the following formula. Clearance=D1 (valve hole diameter)- D2 (outer diameter of valve). Regulator valve to oil pump specification should be 0.0016 - 0.0038 inch.
NOTE
Coat the valve with clean engine oil. Check that it falls smoothly into the regulator valve hole by its own weight.

19. Assemble the oil pump in the reverse order.

21. Install the inner and outer rotor with the punched marks on the oil pump cover side.

## Removal & Installation

3.5L Engine

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

3. Remove the oil pan (lower and upper) and the oil strainer.
4.
5. Remove the front timing chain case and the timing chain (primary).
6.
7. Remove the oil pump assembly.

To install:

NOTE
For pump installation, align the crankshaft flat faces with the oil pump inner rotor flat faces.

1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
2.
3. After warming up the engine, check for engine oil leakage.
4.
5. Check the engine oil level and add engine oil, as needed.

4.5L Engine

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

3. Remove the front cover.
4.
5. Remove the oil pump drive spacer.
6.
7. Set bolts in the two bolt holes (M6 x 1.0mm) on the front surface. Using a suitable puller, pull oil pump drive spacer off the crankshaft.
8.
9. Remove the oil pump.

To install:

1. Install the oil pump.
2.
3. Install the oil pump drive spacer as follows:
1. Insert the oil pump drive spacer so that the crankshaft key and flat surfaces of the oil pump inner rotor mesh properly.
NOTE
If the positional relationship does not allow the insertion, rotate oil pump inner rotor with a finger to facilitate installation.

3. After confirming that the position of each part is in correct position for the spacer, force fit the spacer by lightly tapping it with a plastic hammer until it contacts and does not go further.

5. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
6.
7. After warming up the engine, check for engine oil leakage.
8.
9. Check the engine oil level, and add more oil, if necessary.
