Removal & Installation



4.5L Engine

NOTE
Do not remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. Serious burns could occur from high pressure engine coolant escaping from the radiator. Be sure the engine is cold before removing the radiator cap.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the engine cover.
  6.  
  7. Remove the front engine undercover.
  8.  
  9. Properly drain the radiator. Properly dispose the coolant.
    NOTE
    Be sure the engine is cold before draining the radiator. Do not allow coolant to spill on the drive belts.

  11. Remove the air duct (inlet), air cleaner case and mass air flow assembly.
  12.  
  13. Remove the upper and lower radiator hoses.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect and plug the transmission fluid lines at the radiator.
  16.  
  17. Remove the lower radiator shroud while pressing the left and right pawls in the direction indicated in the illustration. Pull the radiator lower shroud rearwards to remove it from it-s mounting. Lift up and remove it.

  19. Remove the washer tank mounting bolts.
  20.  
  21. Rotate the two upper radiator mount brackets 90 degrees in the direction shown in the illustration and remove them.

  23. Carefully lift the radiator upward and remove it from the vehicle.
    NOTE
    Do not damage or scratch the air conditioning condenser and radiator fins when removing the radiator.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Be sure to fill the radiator with the proper grade and type engine coolant.
  4.  
  5. Start the engine and check for leaks. Correct as required.

3.5L Engine

NOTE

  6.  
  7. Properly drain the radiator. Properly dispose the coolant.
    NOTE

  9. Remove the air duct (inlet) and air cleaner assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove the reservoir tank and tank bracket.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect and plug the transmission fluid lines at the radiator.
  14.  
  15. Remove the upper and lower radiator hoses. Remove the reservoir tank hose.
  16.  
  17. Remove the cooling fan assembly.
  18.  
  19. Rotate the two upper radiator mount brackets 90 degrees in the direction shown in the illustration and remove them.

  21. Carefully lift the radiator upward and remove it from the vehicle.
    NOTE
