Fig. Transverse link swing torque measurement

  1. Hook the spring scale at the ball stud. Confirm that the spring scale measurement value is within specifications when the ball stud begins moving. Swing torque: Less than 0.5 - 4.9 Nm (5 - 43 inch lbs.).
  2.
  3. If it is outside the specified range, replace the transverse link assembly.
  4.

Fig. Transverse link ball stud rotating torque check

  1. Attach a mounting nut to the ball stud. Check that the rotating torque is within the specifications with a preload gauge. Rotating Torque: Less than 0.5 - 4.9 Nm (5 - 43 inch lbs.).
  2.
  3. If it is outside the specified range, replace the transverse link assembly.
  4.

Axial End Play Inspection
  1. Move the tip of the ball joint in an axial direction to check for looseness. Axial end play: 0.1 mm (0.004 in.).
  2.
  3. If it is outside the specified range, replace the transverse link assembly.
  4.

Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.
  5. Remove the wheels.
  6.
  7. Remove the undercover.

  12.
  13. Use a ball joint remover to remove the transverse link from the steering knuckle. Be careful not to damage the ball joint boot.
    WARNING
Tighten the mounting nut temporarily to prevent damage to the threads and to prevent the ball joint remover from coming off.

  14.
  15. Remove the mounting bolts at the back of transverse link and separate the transverse link.
  16.
  17. Remove the mounting bolts which at the front of transverse link and separate the transverse link.
  18.
  19. Remove the transverse link from vehicle.
  20.
  21. Check the transverse link and bushing for deformation, cracks, or damage. If any non-standard condition is found, replace it.
  22.
  23. Check the boot of ball joint for cracks, or other damage, and also for grease leakage. If any non-standard condition is found, replace it.
  24.
  25. Manually move the ball stud to confirm it moves smoothly with no binding.
  26.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal. Refer to the front suspension exploded view for tightening torques.
    NOTE
Refer to exploded view and do not reuse non-reusable parts.

  2.
  3. After removing/installing or replacing suspension components, check the wheel alignment.
  4.
  5. After adjusting the wheel alignment, adjust the neutral position of the steering angle sensor.
  6.
