Do not pull on the wheel sensor wiring harness.

  12.
  13. Remove the brake hose lockplate. Then remove the brake hose from the strut assembly.
  14.
  15. Remove the mounting bolts and nuts between the strut assembly and the steering knuckle.
  16.
  17. Separate the halfshaft from the steering knuckle.
    CAUTION
When removing the halfshaft, do not apply an excessive angle to the halfshaft joint. Also, be careful not to excessively extend the slide joint.

  18.
  19. For the left-hand halfshaft, remove the fixing bolts of the front final drive side assembly halfshaft, then remove the halfshaft from the vehicle.
  20.
  21. For the right-hand halfshaft, pry off the halfshaft from the front final drive assembly.
  22.
  23. Inspect the halfshaft, as follows:
    1. Move the joint up/down, left /right, and in the axial direction. Check for any rough movement or significant looseness.
    2.
    3. Check the boot for cracks or other damage, and also for grease leakage.
    4.
    5. If damage is found, disassemble the halfshaft and replace the defective part(s) with new one(s).

NOTE
Refer to component parts location and do not reuse non-reusable parts.

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal. During installation, tighten the fasteners to the following specifications:
    CAUTION
Be sure to check that circular clip is securely fastened.

    Halfshaft-to-hub locknut: 203 ft. lbs. (275 Nm)

Left-hand side halfshaft-to-drive unit bolts: 33 ft. lbs. (44.5 Nm)

Right-hand side, in order to prevent damage to the front final drive assembly side oil seal, first fit a protector onto the oil seal before inserting the halfshaft. Slide the halfshaft into the slide joint and tap it with a hammer to install it securely.
