  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Use approved refrigerant collecting equipment to discharge refrigerant.
    WARNING
    Make sure the engine is cold before draining the coolant.

  5. Drain the coolant from the cooling system.
  6.  
  7. Remove the cowl top cover.
  8.  
  9. Remove the two high-pressure pipe mounting clips.
  10.  
  11. Remove the low-pressure flexible hose bracket mounting bolts.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the evaporator-side one touch joint, as follows:
    1. Set a disconnect tool (High-pressure side: 92530 - 89908, Low pressure side: 92530 - 89916) on the A/C piping.
    2.  
    3. Slide the disconnect tool toward the front of the vehicle until it clicks.
    4.  
    5. Slide the A/C pipe toward the front of the vehicle front and disconnect it.
      CAUTION
      Seal the connection opening of the pipe with a cap or vinyl tape to avoid exposure to atmosphere.

  15. On 3.5L engines, remove the electronic control throttle assembly.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the two heater hoses from the heater core.
  18.  
  19. Remove the instrument panel assembly, as follows:
    1. Remove the front kicking plate on both sides of the vehicle.
    2.  
    3. Remove dash side finisher plastic nuts, then remove the dash side finisher.
    4.  
    5. Pull to the inside of the vehicle, disengage the metal clips and remove the front pillar garnish.
    6.  
    7. To remove the A/T Select Lever Knob, pull down the knob cover. Remove the lock-pin of the select lever knob. Then, lift up the select lever knob and remove it.
    8.  
    9. Insert a remover into the side between the gaps of the instrument clock finisher and pull back to your side.
    10.  
    11. Disconnect the clips and wiring harness connector, then remove instrument clock finisher.
    12.  
    13. Insert a remover into the side between the gaps of the A/T console finisher and remove it by lifting the A/T console finisher.
    14.  
    15. Disconnect the wiring harness connector.
    16.  
    17. Remove the console finisher screws.
    18.  
    19. Remove the console finishers.
    20.  
    21. To remove the center console, remove the mounting screws, then remove the console sub-wiring harness.
      CAUTION
      When removing console, be careful not to pull the wiring harness.

    22.  
    23. Remove the instrument lower cover by pulling down on the front instrument lower cover and disconnecting clips. Pull it horizontally, and remove it from the lower cover pawls.
    24.  
    25. Remove the instrument passenger lower panel screws, disconnect the wiring harness connector, and remove the lower panel.
    26.  
    27. Remove the instrument driver lower panel bolt and screws, detach the data link connector, pull to disengage the clip and pawl by removing panel in a horizontal direction. Then, disconnect the in-vehicle sensor and all electrical parts. Remove the grommet, and remove the hood lock cable.
    28.  
    29. Remove the steering column front lower cover screw, disengage the tab, and then remove the steering column front lower cover. Move the steering column telescopic to the rear most position, and move the steering column tilt to the top position.
    30.  
    31. Remove the steering column lower cover screws, then disengage the tab and remove steering column lower cover.
    32.  
    33. Remove the steering column upper cover.
    34.  
    35. Remove the wiper and washer switch
    36.  
    37. Remove the lighting and turn signal switch.
    38.  
    39. Pull the steering lock escutcheon back to your side, and remove it.
    40.  
    41. Remove the Combination Meter Assembly by removing the bolts and disconnecting the connector bracket. Remove the bolts and disconnect the wiring harness connector.
      CAUTION
      To prevent it from damaged by interference with the combination meter assembly, protect the combination meter assembly with cloths.

    43. Remove the instrument panel side panel screws, then pull the panels to the side, disconnect the clip and pawls, and remove the instrument side panels. Perform for both right-hand and left-hand panels.
    44.  
    45. To remove the cluster lid C, insert a pry tool into the gap between the instrument panel and pad, pull back towards you, and disconnect the metal clips. Then, disconnect the wiring harness connectors, and remove the cluster lid C.
      CAUTION
      Cover surroundings with cloth to avid scratches or damages.

    47. Remove the display unit and audio unit by removing the screws, disconnecting the wiring harness connector, and removing the display unit and audio unit.
      CAUTION
      The Unit is heavy, so be careful not to pinch your fingers when working.

    49. Insert a thin pry tool into the gaps between the front defroster grille and instrument panel and pad, lift the front defroster grille upward, and remove the front defroster grille. Perform for both right-hand and left-hand grilles.
    50.  
    51. Remove the combination meter bracket bolts and remove the bracket from the vehicle.
    52.  
    53. Once the mounting bolts of the wiring harness clip and steering column assembly are removed, pull the steering column assembly backward, and free the combination meter bracket from the instrument panel and pad.
    54.  
    55. Remove the side ventilations by inserting a thin pry tool into the gaps between the instrument panel and pad, pull back to disconnect the metal retaining clips. Then, disconnect the door mirror switch wiring harness connectors, and remove the side ventilations.
    56.  
    57. Remove the instrument panel and pad by removing the bolts and screws. Then, remove the front passenger air bag module, disconnect the wiring harness connectors, and remove the instrument panel and pad from the passenger door opening.

  21. Remove the blower unit, as follows:
    1. Remove the ECM with bracket attached.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the intake door motor connector and blower fan motor connector.
    4.  
    5. Remove the wiring harness clip from the blower unit.
    6.  
    7. Remove the mounting bolt and screws from the blower unit.
      CAUTION
      Move blower unit rightward, and remove the locating pin and joint. Then, remove the blower unit downward.

    8.  
    9. Remove the blower unit.
    10.

  23. Remove the instrument stays (driver-side and passenger-side).
  24.  
  25. Remove the mounting bolts from the heater and cooling unit.
  26.  
  27. Disconnect the drain hose.
  28.  
  29. Remove the ventilator ducts, defroster nozzle and ducts.
  30.  
  31. Remove the steering member mounting bolts, nut and wiring harness clips.
  32.  
  33. Remove the steering member, then remove the heater and cooling unit.
  34.  

To install:

  1. Install the heater and cooling unit. Tighten the mounting bolts to 60 inch lbs. (7 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the steering member.
  4.  
  5. Install the steering member mounting bolts, nut and wiring harness clips. Tighten the steering member mounting bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the ventilator ducts, defroster nozzle and ducts.
  8.  
  9. Reconnect the drain hose.
  10.  
  11. Install the mounting bolts for the heater and cooling unit.
  12.  
  13. Install the instrument stays (driver-side and passenger-side).
    CAUTION
    Make sure the locating pin and joint are securely inserted.

  15. Install the blower unit, as follows:
    1. Install the blower unit.
    2.  
    3. Install the mounting bolt and screws for the blower unit.
    4.  
    5. Install the wiring harness clip for the blower unit.
    6.  
    7. Reconnect the intake door motor connector and blower fan motor connector.
    8.  
    9. Install the ECM with its bracket attached.
    10.

  17. Install the instrument panel assembly, as follows:
    1. Install the front passenger air bag module and instrument panel and pad.
    2.  
    3. Install the side ventilations.
    4.  
    5. Install the combination meter bracket and reinstall the steering column assembly.
    6.  
    7. Install the front defroster grilles.
    8.  
    9. Install the display unit and audio unit.
    10.  
    11. Install the cluster lid C.
    12.  
    13. Install the instrument side panels..
    14.  
    15. Install the combination meter assembly.
    16.  
    17. Install the steering lock escutcheon.
    18.  
    19. Install the lighting and turn signal switch.
    20.  
    21. Install the wiper and washer switch
    22.  
    23. Install the steering column upper cover.
    24.  
    25. Install the steering column lower cover.
    26.  
    27. Install the steering column front lower cover.
    28.  
    29. Install the instrument driver lower panel.
    30.  
    31. Reattach the data link connector.
    32.  
    33. Reconnect the in-vehicle sensor and all electrical parts.
    34.  
    35. Install the grommet and hood lock cable.
    36.  
    37. Install the instrument passenger lower panel.
    38.  
    39. Install the instrument lower cover.
    40.  
    41. Connect the center console sub-wiring harness.
    42.  
    43. Install the console finishers.
    44.  
    45. Install the console finisher screws.
    46.  
    47. Reconnect the wiring harness connector.
    48.  
    49. Install the A/T console finisher.
    50.  
    51. Install instrument clock finisher.
    52.  
    53. Install the A/T select lever knob.
    54.  
    55. Install the front pillar garnish.
    56.  
    57. Install the dash side finisher and plastic nuts.
    58.  
    59. Install the front kicking plate on both sides of the vehicle.
    60.

  19. Reconnect the two heater hoses to the heater core.
  20.  
  21. On 3.5L engines, install the electronic control throttle assembly.
    CAUTION
    Replace the O-rings for A/C piping with new ones, then apply compressor oil to them when installing them.

  23. Reconnect the evaporator-side one touch joint. The connection point for the female-side piping is thin. So, when inserting the male-side piping, take care not to deform the female-side piping. Slowly insert it in the axial direction. Insert the one-touch joint connection point securely until it clicks. After the piping has been connected, pull on the male-side piping by hand to make sure the piping does not come off.

  25. Install the low-pressure flexible hose bracket mounting bolts.
  26.  
  27. Install the two high-pressure pipe mounting clips.
  28.  
  29. Install the cowl top cover.
  30.  
  31. Fill the cooling system.
  32.  
  33. Recharge the vehicle A/C system and check for leaks.
  34.
