Removal & Installation



Without VDC/TSC

NOTE
This procedure covers the removal and installation of the ABS Actuator and Electric Unit Assembly.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain brake fluid into a suitable container.
  4.  
  5. Remove the mounting bracket retaining bolts and nuts.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the electrical connector and the brake pipes, then remove the mounting nuts and actuator ground cable.
  8.  
  9. Remove the ABS actuator and electric unit from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Install the ABS actuator and electric unit into the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the actuator ground cable. Place ground cable at a notch of mounting bracket.
  4.  
  5. Connect the brake pipes temporarily.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the mounting bolts and nuts. Refer to the illustration for tightening specifications.
  8.  
  9. Tighten brake pipes to the specifications shown in the accompanying illustration.
  10.  
  11. Attach the electrical connector, then connect the negative battery cable.
  12.  
  13. Fill and bleed the brake system as outlined at the beginning of this section.

With VDC/TSC

NOTE
This procedure covers removal and installation of the VDC/TCS/ABS Actuator and Electric Unit Assembly.

Refer to the accompanying illustrations for actuator removal and installation. Note the following when removing and installing the actuator.



Before servicing, disconnect battery cables.
 
When disconnecting the brake lines, use a flare nut wrench to prevent flare nuts and brake line from being damaged.
 
To install the brake lines, use a commercially available brake tube torque wrench
 
Do not remove and install actuator by holding harness.
 
After work is completed, bleed air from the brake lines. Refer to the procedure at the beginning of this section.
 
When replacing ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit), calibrate steering angle sensor neutral position and decel G sensor using a Consult II® or equivalent scan tool.
