Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the cowl top extension.
  6.  
  7. Drain the brake fluid into a suitable container and dispose of properly.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the actuator harness from the ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit).
  10.  
  11. Using the proper tool, flare nut wrench, disconnect the brake lines.
  12.  
  13. Remove the three bolts and remove the ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit).
  14.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Bleed the brake system, be sure to use new brake fluid.
  4.  
  5. Adjust the steering angle sensor neutral position.
  6.  
  7. Adjust the calibration of the yaw rate/side/decal G sensor.
  8.  

Adjustment



Steering Angle Sensor Neutral Position

After removing and installing the control unit, steering angle sensor, steering and suspension components which affect wheel alignment be sure to adjust the steering angle sensor neutral position.


NOTE
This adjustment requires the CONSULT-II diagnostic tool, or equivalent.

  1. Stop the vehicle. Be sure the front wheels are in the straight ahead position.
  2.  
  3. Connect the CONSULT-II and the CONSULT-II CONVERTER to the data link connector of the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Do not start the engine.
  6.  
  7. Touch ABS, WORK SUPPORT and ST ANGLE SENSOR ADJUSTMENT on the CONSULT-II screen (in that order).
  8.  
  9. Touch START. Do not touch the steering wheel while adjusting the steering angle sensor.
  10.  
  11. After about ten seconds, touch END.
  12.  
  13. Turn the ignition switch OFF, then turn it ON again.
  14.  
  15. Run the vehicle with the front wheels in the straight ahead position, then stop.
  16.  
  17. Select DATA MONITOR, SELECTION FROM MENU, and STR ANGLE SIG on the CONSULT-II screen.
  18.  
  19. Check the STR ANGLE SIG is within 0 plus/minus 3.5 degrees.
  20.  
  21. If not within specification repeat the above steps.
  22.  
  23. Erase the memory of the ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit) and ECM.
  24.  
  25. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  26.  

Calibration Of Yaw Rate/Side/Decel G Sensor

After removing and installing the control unit, yaw rate/side/decel G sensor, steering and suspension components which affect wheel alignment be sure to adjust the calibration of yaw rate/side/decel G sensor.


NOTE
This adjustment requires the CONSULT-II diagnostic tool, or equivalent.

  1. Stop the vehicle. Be sure the front wheels are in the straight ahead position. Be sure the tires are properly inflated and the vehicle is in the unladed position.
  2.  
  3. Connect the CONSULT-II and the CONSULT-II CONVERTER to the data link connector of the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Do not start the engine.
  6.  
  7. Touch ABS, WORK SUPPORT and DECEL G SEN CALIBRATION on the CONSULT-II screen (in that order).
  8.  
  9. Touch START.
  10.  
  11. After about ten seconds, touch END.
  12.  
  13. Turn the ignition switch OFF, then turn it ON again.
  14.  
  15. Run the vehicle with the front wheels in the straight ahead position, then stop.
  16.  
  17. Select DATA MONITOR, SELECTION FROM MENU, and DECEL G SEN on the CONSULT-II screen.
  18.  
  19. Check the DECEL G SEN is within plus/minus 0.08G.
  20.  
  21. If not within specification repeat the above steps.
  22.  
  23. Erase the memory of the ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit) and ECM.
  24.  
  25. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  26.
