Wheel Speed Sensors

Removal & Installation

Front Sensor
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  6.  
  7. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the wheel speed sensor mounting screw.
    NOTE
    Remove the rotor to gain access to the wheel sensor mounting bolt.

  10.  
  11. Pull the sensor out, being careful to turn it as little as possible. Do not pull on the sensor harness.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the wheel speed sensor electrical connector.
  14.  
  15. Remove the harness from it mount.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Inspect the sensor O-ring, replace as required.
  2.  
  3. Before installing the sensor be sure no foreign materials such as iron fragments are adhered to the pick-up part of the sensor or to the inside of the sensor mounting hole or on the rotor mounting surface.
  4.  
  5. Apply a thin coat of a suitable grease to the wheel sensor O-ring and mounting hole.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the sensor retaining bolt to 73 inch lbs.
  8.  
  9. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
  10.  

Rear Sensor
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  6.  
  7. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the wheel speed sensor mounting screw.
    NOTE
    Remove the rear hub and bearing assembly to gain access to the wheel sensor mounting bolt.

  10.  
  11. Pull the sensor out, being careful to turn it as little as possible. Do not pull on the sensor harness.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the wheel speed sensor electrical connector.
  14.  
  15. Remove the harness from it mount.
  16.  

To install:
