Testing

Visually check the alternator wiring and listen for abnormal noises. Check that the wiring is in good condition. Check that there is no abnormal noise from the alternator while the engine is running.

The alternator provides DC voltage to operate the vehicles electrical system and to keep the battery charged. The voltage output is controlled by the IC regulator. Power is supplied at all times to the alternator (terminal 4) through a 10 amp fuse. Terminal 1 supplies power to charge the battery and operate the vehicles electrical system. Output voltage is controlled by the IC regulator at terminal 4 detecting the input voltage. The charging circuit is protected by a 140 amp fusible link, located in the fusible link box. Ground is supplied via alternator terminal 2 through body ground circuit E203.
