Pinion Seal

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear driveshaft.
  4.  
  5. Measure and record the total preload.
  6.  
  7. Matchmark the drive pinion to position -B- on the companion flange.
  8.  
  9. Remove the drive pinion nut using suitable tool.
  10.  
  11. Remove the companion flange using suitable tool.
  12.  
  13. Remove the rear pinion seal using special tool J-34286.

To install:

  1. Press the rear pinion seal into the carrier using suitable tool.
  2.  
  3. Align the matchmark on the companion flange to the drive pinion and install the companion flange.
  4.  
  5. Lubricate the drive pinion threads and seating surfaces of the drive pinion nut with grease.
  6.  
  7. Using a new drive pinion nut, tighten to 124-274 ft. lbs. (167-372 Nm).
    NOTE
    Final torque is determined when adjusting total preload using special tool J-25765-A.

  8.  
  9. Install rear driveshaft.
  10.
