REMOVAL & INSTALLATION CRV Models

Before disconnecting the battery cable(s) or the radio electrical connectors, make sure to note the radio security code. Once disconnected, the radio will not function until the code is entered.


CAUTION
The models covered by this guide are equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which uses an air bag. Whenever working near any of the SRS components, such as the impact sensors, the air bag module, steering column and instrument panel, disable the SRS, as described in Chassis Electrical .

  1. Note the radio security code and disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) as outlined in Chassis Electrical .
  4.  
  5. Remove the following components as outlined in this section:

    Glove box
     
    Driver's side lower dash cover
     
    Driver's side lower knee bolster
     
    Lower center console trim (automatic transaxle)
     
    Center pocket/beverage holder (automatic transaxle)
     
    Center console (manual transaxle)
     
    Center dashboard lower cover
     
    Dashboard center panel
     
    Driver's side electric switch panel
     

  6.  
  7. Remove the instrument cluster, as outlined in Chassis Electrical .
  8.  
  9. Detach the driver's air bag electrical connector and lower the steering column.
  10.  
  11. Unsnap the driver's side dash cover. Remove the screw in the passenger's lower side cover and unsnap to remove.
  12.  
  13. Detach the dash electrical connectors from the upper portion of the left side under dash fuse/relay panel. Remove the two fasteners, then move the left side under dash fuse/relay panel aside.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the antenna lead, and disconnect the harness clips.
  16.  
  17. Remove the electrical connector holder from the dashboard frame.
  18.  
  19. Unbolt the control unit/relay bracket from the behind the center of the dash.
  20.  
  21. Remove the 7 dash panel bolts, located as follows:

    1 bolt at the left side of dash
     
    2 bolts at the lower left side of dash
     
    2 bolts at the left and right sides of center console
     
    2 bolts at the right side of dash at glove box opening.

  23. Cover the lower inside of the windshield trim with protective tape.
  24.  
  25. Verify that all electrical connectors, brackets and clips have been disconnected.
  26.  
  27. Carefully lift and remove the dashboard assembly.
  28.  
  29. Installation is in reverse order of removal, making sure to properly activate the SRS and enter the radio security code.

Odyssey Models

4-CYLINDER ENGINES

  5. Remove the following components as outlined in this section:

    Glove box
     
    Driver's lower dash cover
     
    Driver's lower knee bolster
     
    Center console
     
    Beverage holder
     
    Center pocket
     
    Radio/heater control panel
     
    Dashboard compartment
     
    Center vent/switch panel

  7. Remove the instrument cluster, as outlined in Chassis Electrical .
  8.  
  9. Detach the driver's air bag electrical connector and lower the steering column.
  10.  
  11. Unplug the dash electrical connectors from the upper portion of the left side underdash fuse/relay panel, then remove the two fasteners, and move the left side under dash fuse/relay panel aside.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the antenna lead, and disconnect the harness clips.
  14.  
  15. Remove the electrical connector holder from the dashboard frame.
  16.  
  17. Remove the glove box striker bracket nut.
  18.  
  19. Pull back on the door seals and remove the lower windshield pillar trim.
  20.  
  21. Lift up on the forward portion of the dashboard side upper trim, then slide back to release the hook toward the back of the windshield pillar area.
  22.  
  23. If equipped, detach the radio tweeter electrical connector.
  24.  
  25. Unplug the passenger side air bag electrical connector, then remove the two nuts just above the connector.
  26.  
  27. Remove the 10 dash panel bolts. The bolts are located as follows:

    2 bolts on the left side of the dash
     
    2 bolts at the instrument cluster opening
     
    2 bolts each on the left and right sides of center console
     
    2 bolts on the right side of dash at glove box opening and windshield pillar

  29. Cover the lower inside of the windshield trim with protective tape.
  30.  
  31. Verify that all electrical connectors, brackets and clips have been disconnected.

  33. Carefully lift and remove the dashboard assembly.
  34.  
  35. Installation is in reverse order of removal, making sure to properly activate the SRS and enter the radio security code.

V6 ENGINES

  3. Disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) as outlined in Chassis Electrical .
  4.  
  5. Remove the following items:

    Dashboard lower cover
     
    Steering column cover
     
    Center lower pocket
     
    Glove box
     

  6.  
  7. Unsnap the heater lower console side covers.
  8.  
  9. Slide off the front door seal opening trim.
  10.  
  11. Carefully remove the left and right kick panels.
  12.  
  13. Carefully unsnap and remove the inside windshield pillar trim.
  14.  
  15. From outside of the driver's door, at the pillar corner, lift the small trim cover, remove the screw and carefully remove the corner trim from the clips.
  16.  
  17. Open the passenger side door, remove the screw from the dash right side panel, and carefully unsnap the panel.
  18.  
  19. Remove the bolt at the bottom of the fuse/relay box and pull out the box.
  20.  
  21. Disconnect the electrical connectors at the left, center and right side of the dash.
  22.  
  23. Using a T-30 Torx® bit, remove the ground bolt on the left side of the lower center dash at the SRS control unit.
  24.  
  25. Disconnect all of the harness and connector clips from under the dash.
  26.  
  27. During removal, make sure to note the location each of the 14 dash mounting bolts, as there are 4 different bolt sizes.
  28.  
  29. Remove the 3 bolts from the left side of the dash, the 3 bolts from the right side of the dash, 1 left side dash bolt, 3 steering column opening bolts, and the 4 center console mounting bolts.
  30.  
  31. Carefully lift the dashboard and release it from the steering hanger beam.
  32.  

To install:
  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure, making sure to perform the following:
    1. Use a T30 Torx® bit to install the ground bolt on the left side of the lower center dash at the SRS control unit.
    2.  
    3. Properly enable the SRS, as outlined in Chassis Electrical .
    4.  
    5. Enter the radio security code.
