Removal & Installation



2.2L Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain engine coolant from the radiator and engine.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect radiator hose from the inlet pipe.
  6.  
  7. Remove retainers and the thermostat housing.

To install:

  1. Before installing thermostat, coat sealing surface with silicone grease.
  2.  
  3. Install a new gasket.
  4.  
  5. Install thermostat housing and tighten the bolts to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Attach the radiator hose to the inlet pipe.
  8.  
  9. Replenish the engine coolant.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.  
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14.  
  15. Start engine and check for engine coolant leaks.
  16.  

3.2L Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain engine coolant from the radiator and engine.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect radiator hose from the inlet pipe.
  6.  
  7. Remove the thermostat housing, then remove the thermostat (2).

To install:

  1. Install the thermostat into the outlet pipe (4) making sure that the air hole is in the up position.
  2.  
  3. Install thermostat housing and tighten the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Attach the radiator hose to the inlet pipe.
  6.  
  7. Refill the engine with the proper type and amount of coolant.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  
  11. Start engine and check for coolant leakage.
  12.
