Timing Belt Cover

Removal & Installation



2.2L Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect PCV hose from cylinder head cover.
  4.  
  5. Remove the air intake duct.
  6.  
  7. Remove the left side ground cable from cylinder head cover and disconnect ground cable connector on the left side wheel arch. Remove right side ground cable from generator stay and disconnect ground cable connector on the right side wheel arch.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the 3 (black, green and blue colors) engine wire harness connectors from chassis harness of left rear side of compartment.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the cooling fan wire harness connector from cooling fan on left side top of fan shroud.
  12.  
  13. Use a wrench to rotate the drive belt tensioner as shown to remove drive belt.

  15. Remove PCV hose from cylinder block.
  16.  
  17. Remove intake duct stay from cylinder head.
  18.  
  19. Remove two bolts for remove ignition cable cover from cylinder head cover.
  20.  
  21. Disconnect ignition cable from ignition plug.
  22.  
  23. Disconnect camshaft position sensor harness and crankshaft angle sensor harness from behind generator.
  24.  
  25. Remove the 4 bolts, then remove the crankshaft pulley.

  27. Remove timing belt front cover.
  28.  
  29. Loosen the timing belt rear cover bolts as shown in the accompanying figure, then remove the camshaft angle sensor.

To install:

  1. Install the camshaft position sensor and tighten timing rear cover bolts to 5.9 ft. lbs. (8 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the cylinder head cover and tighten the bolts 5.9 ft. lbs. (8 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the timing belt front cover then tighten the retaining bolts to 4.4 ft. lbs. (6.6 Nm).
  6.  
  7.  Install the crankshaft pulley, tighten the bolts to 14 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Use a wrench to rotate the drive belt tensioner, then install the drive belt and release the tensioner.
  10.  
  11. Connect the spark plug cable(s) to the spark plug(s).
  12.  
  13. Install spark plug cable cover to cylinder head cover and tighten two bolts to 2 ft. lbs. (3 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Install the intake duct bracket to the cylinder block.
  16.  
  17. Install the PCV hose flange to cylinder block and tighten to 18 ft. lbs .(25 Nm). 020RW015

  19. Attach the cooling fan wire harness connector to cooling fan on left side top of fan shroud.
  20.  
  21. Connect the left side ground cable to cylinder head cover and connect other side connector to left side wheel arch terminal.
  22.  
  23. Connect the right side ground cable to generator stay and connect other side connector to right side wheel arch terminal.
  24.  
  25. Attach the 3 (black, green and blue colors) engine wire harness connector to chassis harness of left rear side of engine compartment.
  26.  
  27. Install the intake duct.
  28.  
  29. Connect the PCV hose to cylinder head cover.
  30.  
  31. Connect the negative battery cable.
  32.
