Parking Brake Shoes

Break-In Procedure



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Loosen the equalizer adjusting nut.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rubber plug from the backing plate.
  6.  
  7. Turn the adjuster until the rotor can no longer be turned by hand.
  8.  
  9. Back off the adjuster until the rotor turns freely.
  10.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
    CAUTION
    Perform this procedure safely and in accordance with traffic laws!

  3. With the parking brake lever pulled about half way, drive at 30 mph for about 30 seconds, then, drive in reverse at 6 mph for 18 seconds.

  5. Check the parking brake lever stroke and adjust if necessary.

Removal & Installation



With Rear Disc Brakes
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the adjusting nut.
  6.  
  7. Remove the wheels.
  8.  
  9. Remove the caliper and support it out of the way.
  10.  
  11. Remove the rotor.
  12.  
  13. Remove the holding springs.
  14.  
  15. Remove the upper and lower return springs.
  16.  
  17. Remove the brake shoes.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the cable from the lever.
  20.  
  21. Installation is the reverse of removal. Apply silicone brake grease to the points shown.
  22.  
  23. Adjust the parking brake.

With Rear Drum Brakes

The rear drum brake shoes serve as the parking brakes. Refer to the procedures under Rear Drum Brakes.
