Disarming the System

  1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  2.  
  3. Turn the ignition switch toLOCK
  4.  
  5. Remove the AIR BAG or SIR fuse from the fuse block.
  6.  
  7. Remove the steering column filler panel or knee bolster.
  8.  
  9. Unplug the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) and yellow two way connector at the base of the steering column.
  10.  
  11. Open the glove compartment door, lift the stop and let the door fully open.
  12.  
  13. Remove the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) from the passenger yellow two way connector located behind the glove box.
  14.  
  15. Unplug the yellow two way connector located behind the glove box.
  16.  
  17. Connect the negative battery cable.
  18.  


NOTE
With the AIR BAG fuse removed, the battery cable connected and the ignition in the ON position, the AIR BAG warning lamp will be ON. This is normal and does not indicate a system malfunction.


NOTE
Air bag fuse disabling procedure.

  1. Turn the steering wheels so that vehicles wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  2.  
  3. Place the ignition in the OFF position.
  4.  
  5. Locate and remove the fuses supplying power to the SDM.
  6.  
  7. Wait 1 minute before working on the system.
    NOTE
    The SDM may have more than one fused power input. To ensure there is no unwanted SIR deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs, remove all fuses supplying power to the SDM. With all SDM fuses removed and the ignition switch in the on position, the air bag warning indicator illuminates. This is normal operation, and does not indicate a SIR system malfunction.


    NOTE
    Negative battery cable disabling procedure.

  9. Turn the steering wheels so that vehicles wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  10.  
  11. Place the ignition in the OFF position.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery.
  14.  
  15. Wait 1 minute before working on the system.

  1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.

  3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK , remove the key, and then disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the AIR BAG or SIR fuse from the fuse block.
  6.  
  7. Remove the steering column filler panel or knee bolster.
  8.  
  9. Unplug the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) and yellow two way connector at the base of the steering column.
  10.  
  11. Open the glove compartment door, lift the stop and let the door fully open.
  12.  
  13. Remove the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) from the passenger yellow two way connector located behind the glove box.
  14.  
  15. Unplug the yellow two way connector located behind the glove box.
  16.  
  17. Connect the negative battery cable.
