Throttle Body

Removal & Installation



4.2L Engine
  1. Remove the resonator assembly.
  2.  
  3. Remove the evaporative emission canister purge line from the throttle body.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the throttle body electrical connector.
  6.  
  7. Remove the throttle body assembly retaining bolts.
  8.  
  9. Remove the throttle body assembly and the gasket from the intake manifold.
  10.  
  11. Clean the gasket surface.

To install:

  1. Install the throttle body assembly to the intake manifold with the gasket.
  2.  
  3. Add sealer GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) to the throttle control module bolt threads.
  4.  
  5. Install the throttle body assembly retaining bolts.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the bolts to 89 inch. lbs. (10 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the throttle body electrical connector.
  10.  
  11. Install the EVAP canister purge line to the throttle body.
  12.  
  13. Install the resonator assembly.
  14.  

5.3L Engine
  1. Partially drain the cooling system in order to allow the hose at the throttle body to be removed.
  2.  
  3. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the throttle actuator motor electrical connector from the throttle actuator motor.

  7. Reposition the throttle body hose clamp.
  8.  
  9. Remove both of the throttle body engine coolant hoses from the throttle body.
  10.  
  11. Remove the throttle body bolts and nuts.
  12.  
  13. Remove the throttle body and gasket. Discard the gasket.

To install:

  1. Install a new throttle body gasket.
  2.  
  3. Install the throttle body.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the bolts/nuts to 53 inch. lbs. (6 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the throttle body engine coolant hoses to the throttle body.
  8.  
  9. Position the throttle body hose clamps.
  10.  
  11. Connect the throttle actuator motor electrical connector to the throttle actuator motor.
  12.  
  13. Install the air cleaner outlet duct.
  14.  
  15. Refill the cooling system.
  16.  
  17. Verify that the vehicle meets the following conditions:
    1. The vehicle is not in a reduced engine power mode.
    2.  
    3. The ignition is on.
    4.  
    5. The engine is off.
    6.  

  18.  
  19. Connect a scan tool in order to test for a proper throttle-opening and throttle-closing range.
  20.  
  21. Operate the accelerator pedal and monitor the throttle angles. The accelerator pedal should operate freely, without binding, between a closed throttle, and a wide open throttle.
  22.  
  23. Start the engine.
  24.  
  25. Inspect for coolant leaks.
