REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
I-Mark (FWD) and Stylus
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the air duct tube from the air cleaner.
  4.  
  5. At the transaxle, disconnect the shift cable, speedometer cable, vacuum diaphragm hose, engine wiring harness clamp and the ground cable.
  6.  
  7. At the left fender, disconnect the inhibitor switch and the kickdown solenoid wiring connectors.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the oil cooler lines from the transaxle.
  10.  
  11. Remove the 3 upper transaxle-to-engine mounting bolts and raise and support the vehicle safely.
  12.  
  13. Remove both front wheels and the left front fender splash shield.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the right control arm end at the knuckle. Remove the left tension rod with bracket. Disconnect both tie rod ends at the knuckle using tool J2168702 or equivalent.
  16.  
  17. Use a suitable tool and pull out the drive shafts. Be careful with the transaxle oil seals when pulling out the drive shafts. Remove the motor mount bolts.
  18.  
  19. Using a suitable engine lift, raise the engine. Remove the bolts of the center beam and then remove the 3 upper transaxle to engine mounting bolts.
  20.  
  21. Remove the flywheel dust cover and the converter-to-flywheel attaching bolts. Lower the engine and slant the engine from the engine support fixture.
  22.  
  23. Remove the transaxle rear mount through bolt.
  24.  
  25. Disconnect the starter wiring and the starter. Support the transaxle.
  26.  
  27. Remove the lower transaxle-to-engine mounting bolts and remove the transaxle.
  28.  

To install:

  1. Install the transaxle and lower transaxle-to-engine mounting bolts.
  2.  
  3. Connect the starter wiring and the starter. Support the transaxle.
  4.  
  5. Install the transaxle rear mount through bolt.
  6.  
  7. Install the converter-to-flywheel attaching bolts and flywheel dust cover.
  8.  
  9. Using a suitable engine lift, lower the engine. Install the bolts of the center beam and then install the 3 upper transaxle to engine mounting bolts.
  10.  
  11. Install the drive shafts. Be careful with the transaxle oil seals when install the drive shafts. Install the motor mount bolts.
  12.  
  13. Connect the right control arm end at the knuckle. Install the left tension rod with bracket. Connect both tie rod ends at the knuckle using tool J2168702 or equivalent.
  14.  
  15. Install both fender splash shields and front wheels.
  16.  
  17. Install the 3 upper transaxle-to-engine mounting bolts.
  18.  
  19. Connect the oil cooler lines to the transaxle.
  20.  
  21. At the left fender, connect the inhibitor switch and the kickdown solenoid wiring connectors.
  22.  
  23. At the transaxle, connect the shift cable, speedometer cable, vacuum diaphragm hose, engine wiring harness clamp and the ground cable.
  24.  
  25. Refill any lost transaxle fluid with the engine running. Install the air duct tube to the air cleaner.
  26.  
  27. Connect the negative battery cable.
  28.  
    1. Transaxle assembly to engine bolts: 56 ft. lbs.
    2.  
    3. Center beam bolts: 56 ft. lbs.
    4.  
    5. Torque converter-to-flywheel bolts: 30 ft. lbs.
    6.  
    7. Lower engine mounts: 61 ft. lbs.
    8.  
    9. Driveshaft/tie rod to knuckle: 42 ft. lbs.
    10.  
    11. Tension rod bracket bolts: 48 ft. lbs.
    12.  
    13. Right control arm end bolts: 80 ft. lbs.
    14.  
    15. Front wheel lugs aluminum: 87 ft. lbs. and steel: 65 ft. lbs.
    16.  


Impulse
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and place a drain pan under the transaxle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the battery and battery tray.
  4.  
  5. Remove the air cleaner and breather hose.
  6.  
  7. Remove the ignition coil and bracket.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect all wiring and control cables at the transaxle.
  10.  
  11. Raise the vehicle and support with jackstands. Remove the front tire assemblies.
  12.  
  13. Remove the undercover and disconnect the oil cooler lines.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the ball joint and tie rod ends as outlined in .
  16.  
  17. Place a drain pan under the transaxle and remove the driveshafts as outlined in this Section.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the front exhaust pipe and torque rod.
  20.  
  21. Remove or disconnect the left, center and rear rubber mount.
  22.  
  23. Disconnect the engine stiffener and remove the flywheel dust cover.
  24.  
  25. Remove the converter-to-flywheel and engine-to-transaxle bolt.
  26.  
  27. Using a suitable transaxle jack, remove the assembly from the vehicle.
  28.  

To install:

  1. Using a suitable transaxle jack, install the assembly into the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install the converter-to-flywheel and engine-to-transaxle bolt.
  4.  
  5. Connect the engine stiffener and install the flywheel dust cover.
  6.  
  7. Install the left, center and rear rubber mount.
  8.  
  9. Connect the front exhaust pipe and torque rod.
  10.  
  11. Install the driveshafts as outlined in this Section.
  12.  
  13. Connect the ball joint and tie rod ends as outlined in .
  14.  
  15. Install the undercover and connect the oil cooler lines.
  16.  
  17. Install the front tires and lower the vehicle.
  18.  
  19. Connect all wiring and control cables at the transaxle.
  20.  
  21. Install the ignition coil and bracket.
  22.  
  23. Install the air cleaner and breather hose.
  24.  
  25. Install the battery and battery tray.
  26.  
  27. Connect the negative battery cable.
  28.  
  29. Start the engine and allow to reach operating temperature. Fill the transaxle to the proper level. NEVER overfill the transaxle.
