REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
Front

CAUTION
Brake shoes contain asbestos, which has been determined to be a cancer causing agent. Never clean the brake surfaces with compressed air! Avoid inhaling any dust from any brake surface! When cleaning brake surfaces, use a commercially available brake cleaning fluid.

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front wheel and tire assemblies.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect and plug the brake hose at the caliper. Use a container to catch the fluid.
  6.  
  7. Remove the caliper slide pin(s) and remove the caliper (some models may have a support bracket which also needs to be removed).
  8.  
  9. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Tighten the slide pin(s) to 36 ft. lbs. except on RWD Impulse and Isuzu trucks where they are tightened to 27 ft. lbs.
  10.  
  11. Bleed the brake system.

Rear
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear wheel and tire assemblies.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect and plug the brake hose at the caliper. Use a container to catch the fluid.
  6.  


NOTE
On 1990 and 1991 Impulse, the bolt retaining the brake hose on the right hand side has left hand thread.

  1. On FWD Impulse and trucks, disconnect the rear parking brake cable from the front cable, remove the brake cable from the cable support bracket and disconnect the brake cable from the brake lever.

  3. Remove the lower slide pin and remove the caliper assembly.
  4.  
  5. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Tighten the slide pin to 36 ft. lbs. on Stylus, 32 ft. lbs. on FWD Impulse and 14.5 ft. lbs. on RWD Impulse and trucks.
  6.  
  7. Bleed the brake system. Adjust the parking brake if removed.
