REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
P'up, Amigo, Trooper and Rodeo
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the front driveshaft from the differential.
  4.  
  5. Remove the wheels and skid plate.
  6.  
  7. Loosen the torsion bar completely with the height control adjusting bolts.
  8.  
  9. Remove the strut bars.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the stabilizer bars from the lower control arms.
  12.  
  13. Remove the caliper assemblies and wire them to the frame; do not disconnect the brake lines.
  14.  
  15. Remove the ball joints from the tie rods.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the upper control arms from the frame; make sure to note the number and positions of the shims.
  18.  
  19. Remove the steering link ends from the lower control arms.
  20.  
  21. Disconnect the shock absorbers from the lower control arms.
  22.  
  23. Disconnect the lower control arms from the frame.
  24.  
  25. Remove the locking hub.
  26.  
  27. Remove the rotors and upper links.
  28.  
  29. Remove the pitman arm and idler arm along with the steering linkage assembly.
  30.  
  31. Support the differential housing and lower it clear of the vehicle. Take care to avoid damaging the Birfield joints.
  32.  
  33. Drain the differential case and remove the 4 bolts attaching the axle mounting bracket to the case.
  34.  
  35. Pull the shaft assemblies from the case on both sides.

To install:

  1. Install the axle assembly and 4 bolts attaching the axle mounting bracket to the case.
  2.  
  3. Install the pitman arm and idler arm along with the steering linkage assembly.
  4.  
  5. Install the rotors and upper links.
  6.  
  7. Install the locking hub.
  8.  
  9. Connect the lower control arms to the frame.
  10.  
  11. Connect the shock absorbers to the lower control arms.
  12.  
  13. Install the steering link ends to the lower control arms.
  14.  
  15. Connect the upper control arms to the frame; make sure to note the number and positions of the shims.
  16.  
  17. Install the ball joints to the tie rods.
  18.  
  19. Install the caliper assemblies.
  20.  
  21. Connect the stabilizer bars to the lower control arms.
  22.  
  23. Install the strut bars.
  24.  
  25. Tighten the torsion bar completely with the height
