REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
RWD I-Mark and Impulse with G200Z Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise the vehicle, support with jackstands and remove the rear wheels.
  4.  
  5. Remove the driveshaft as outlined in this Section.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the exhaust pipe, stabilizer bar, shock absorbers and brake hose.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the lateral rod.
  10.  
  11. Place a jack under the rear axle assembly.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the insulator and springs.
  14.  
  15. Remove the control arm and bridge to body bolts.
  16.  
  17. Remove the rear axle assembly with the extension assembly.

To install:

  1. Raise the rear axle assembly with the extension assembly into position and install the springs and insulators.
  2.  
  3. Install the control arm and bridge to body bolts.
  4.  
  5. Connect the lateral rod.
  6.  
  7. Connect the exhaust pipe, stabilizer bar, shock absorbers and brake hose.
  8.  
  9. Install the driveshaft as outlined in this Section.
  10.  
  11. Install the wheels and lower the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Bleed the brake system as outlined in the Brakes section.
  14.  
  15. Connect the negative battery cable and check operation.
  16.  

RWD Impulse with 4ZC1-Turbo Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise the vehicle, support with jackstands and remove the rear wheels.
  4.  
  5. Remove the caliper assemblies as outlined in .
  6.  
  7. Remove the plate to rear axle bolt.
  8.  
  9. Remove the lower link bolt, spring and insulator. Place a floor jack under the rear axle.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the stabilizer, propeller shaft, upper link, brake hose, lateral link and shock absorbers.

To install:

  1. Connect the stabilizer, propeller shaft, upper link, brake hose, lateral link and shock absorbers.
  2.  
  3. Install the lower link bolt, spring and insulator.
  4.  
  5. Install the plate to rear axle bolt.
  6.  
  7. Install the caliper assemblies as outlined in the Brakes section.
  8.  
  9. Install the rear wheels, lower the vehicle and bleed the brake system.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.  

P'up, Amigo, Trooper and Rodeo
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Remove the rear wheels.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the shock absorbers from the spring plates.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect and plug the brake lines on the rear axle housing.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the parking brake cables from the rear axle housing.
  8.  
  9. Support the rear axle housing and remove the housing to leaf spring U-bolts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the rear axle housing from the vehicle.
  12.  

To install:

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedures.
  2.  
  3. Torque the housing U-bolts to 36 and 1943 ft. lbs. (47 and 1960 Nm) and the shock absorber bolts to 27 and 1930 ft. lbs. (30 and 1941 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Bleed the brake system and check the level of the axle lubricant when finished.
