REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear wheel and tire assemblies.
  4.  
  5. Remove the brake drums.
  6.  
  7. Remove the brake return springs.
  8.  
  9. Remove the leading shoe holding pin and spring and the leading shoe.
  10.  
  11. Remove the self adjuster and the adjuster lever.
  12.  
  13. Remove the trailing shoe holding pin and spring.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the trailing shoe and remove the trailing shoe. Remove the parking brake lever from the trailing shoe.
  16.  
  17. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Apply a thin coat of suitable high temperature grease to the shoe contact pads on the brake backing plate prior to installation.
  18.  
  19. Check the brake drum for scoring or other wear and machine or replace as necessary. Check the maximum brake drum diameter specification when machining. If the drum is machined, the wheel bearings must be removed and the hub thoroughly cleaned before reinstalling.
  20.  
  21. Adjust the brake shoes.
