Turn Signal Switch (Combination Switch)

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
Cars
  1. Remove the steering wheel as previously described.
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering column covers and disconnect the electrical connectors to the switches.
  4.  
  5. Remove the washer/wiper switch by removing the retaining screws.
  6.  
  7. Remove the turn signal/headlight switch and hazard switch by removing the four retaining screws. Disconnect the harness connector as the switch is removed.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Install the switch and make all electrical connections. Make sure the connectors are tight and properly connected.
  2.  


NOTE
The light, wiper/washer, turn signal switches etc. on the Impulse, are contained in a control panel which is removed as an assembly.

Trucks
P'UP
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. From the rear of the steering wheel, remove the horn pad screw and lift the horn pad upward to remove it.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the horn pad.
  6.  
  7. Remove the steering wheel-to-steering column nut.
  8.  
  9. Matchmark the steering wheel to the steering shaft for reinstallation purposes.
  10.  


NOTE
Never apply a blow to the steering wheel shaft with a hammer or other impact tool, to remove the steering wheel, for the steering shaft may become damaged.

  1. Using a steering wheel puller, press the steering wheel from the steering column.
  2.  


NOTE
Use steering wheel puller J-29752 (LS model) or J-24292-B (except LS model).

  1. Remove the contact ring.
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering column covers.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the combination switch.
  6.  
  7. Remove the combination switch-to-steering column screws and the switch.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Install the combination switch to the steering column and secure it with screws.
  2.  
  3. Connect the combination switch electrical connector.
  4.  
  5. Install the steering column covers.
  6.  
  7. Install the contact ring.
  8.  
  9. Align the steering wheel-to-steering column matchmarks and torque the nut to 18 and 1925 ft. lbs.
  10.  
  11. Connect the electrical connector to the horn pad.
  12.  
  13. Install the horn pad and the horn pad screw.
  14.  
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
  16.  

EXCEPT P'UP
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. From the rear of the steering wheel, remove the horn pad screw and lift the horn pad upward to remove it.
  4.  
  5. Remove the steering wheel-to-steering column nut.
  6.  
  7. Matchmark the steering wheel to the steering shaft for reinstallation purposes.
  8.  


NOTE

  1. Install the combination switch to the steering column and secure it with screws.

  3. Connect the combination switch electrical connector.
  4.  
  5. Install the steering column covers.
  6.  
  7. Install the contact ring.
  8.  
  9. Align the steering wheel-to-steering column matchmarks and torque the nut to 22 and 1929 ft. lbs.
  10.  
  11. Install the horn pad and the horn pad screw.
  12.  
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14.
