Windshield Wiper Motor and Linkage

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
RWD I-Mark
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. From under the instrument panel, remove the nut and crank arm from the motor.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the wiring connector.
  6.  
  7. Remove the three nuts and motor assembly.
  8.  
  9. To remove the left linkage assembly: remove the left wiper arm nut and arm.
  10.  
  11. Remove the steering wheel and instrument cluster as outlined in this Section.
  12.  
  13. Reaching through the cluster opening, pry the linkage loose from the wiper transmission, being careful not to damage the nylon bushing.
  14.  
  15. Remove the three bolts and wiper transmission linkage from the cowl.
  16.

To install:

  1. To install the left linkage assembly. Install the wiper transmission and three bolts to the cowl.
  2.  
  3. Reaching through the cluster opening, install the linkage to the wiper motor.
  4.  
  5. Install the steering wheel and instrument cluster as outlined in this Section.
  6.  
  7. Install the left wiper arm nut and arm.
  8.  
  9. Install the three nuts and motor assembly.
  10.  
  11. Connect the wiring connector.
  12.  
  13. From under the instrument panel, install the nut and crank arm to the motor.
  14.  
  15. Connect the negative battery cable and check operation.
  16.  

FWD I-Mark and RWD Impulse
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wiper arm retaining nuts and wiper arms.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the motor electrical connector.
  6.  
  7. Remove the motor retaining bolts and pull motor out of the cowl far enough to remove the linkage (I-Mark). Remove the bracket assembly with the linkage (Impulse).

To install:

  1. Install the bracket assembly (Impulse). Install the motor and retaining bolts (I-Mark).
  2.  
  3. Connect the motor electrical connector.
  4.  
  5. Install the wiper arm retaining nuts and wiper arms.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable and check operation.
  8.  

Early Model P'up
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wiper blade and arm.
  4.  
  5. Remove the seal and nut.
  6.  
  7. Remove the wiper motor assembly by removing retaining bolts and remove the motor link nut.
  8.  
  9. Remove the link assembly.
  10.

To install:

  1. Install the link assembly.
  2.  
  3. Install the wiper motor assembly and retaining bolts.
  4.  
  5. Install the seal and nut.
  6.  
  7. Install the wiper blade and arm.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable and check operation.
  10.  

Late Model P'up, Amigo and Rodeo
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wiper motor connector.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wiper motor bracket screws and pull the motor out of the cowl far enough to disconnect the motor from the linkage at the ball joint.
  4.  
  5. Remove the wiper arm cap, nut and arm.
  6.  
  7. Remove the cowl vent cover and linkage from the access hole.
  8.

To install:

  1. Install the linkage and cowl vent cover.
  2.  
  3. Install the wiper arm cap, nut and arm.
  4.  
  5. Connect the motor to the linkage at the ball joint, install the motor and retaining screws.
  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable and wiper motor connector.
  8.  

Trooper
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wiper arm assembly from the linkage.
  4.  
  5. Remove the link pivot nut.
  6.  
  7. Remove the center and left work hole covers.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the motor wiring.
  10.  
  11. Remove the wiper motor assembly with the link assembly intact.
  12.

To install:

  1. Install the wiper motor assembly with the link assembly intact.
  2.  
  3. Connect the motor wiring.
  4.  
  5. Install the center and left work hole covers.
  6.  
  7. Install the link pivot nut.
  8.  
  9. Install the wiper arm assembly to the linkage.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable and check operation.
  12.
