Ignition Coils

Removal & Installation



2.8L
  1. Remove the air cleaner resonator and outlet duct.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (2) from the oil pressure sensor (1).
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the engine wiring harness retainer (3) from the oil filter adapter (4).

  6.  
  7. Disconnect the engine wiring harness retainers (1) from the power steering pump (2).

  8.  
  9. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors (1, 4) from the following:

    The Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor (5)
     
    The CMP actuator solenoid valve (6)
     

  10.  
  11. Disconnect the engine wiring harness retainer (2) from the camshaft cover (3).

  12.  
  13. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors from the following:

    Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor (1)
     
    Fuel injector harness (2)
     
    Ignition coils (4)
     
    Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) (5)

  14.  
  15. Carefully disengage the engine wiring harness conduit from the camshaft cover, and position aside.

  17. Remove the ignition coil bolts.
  18.  
  19. Remove the ignition coils from the camshaft cover.

To install:


NOTE
Ensure the ignition coil seals are properly seated to the camshaft cover.

  1. Install the ignition coils into the camshaft cover.
  2.  
  3. Install the ignition coil bolts. Tighten the ignition coil bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Attach the engine wiring harness conduit to the camshaft cover.
  6.  
  7. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors to the following:

    ECT sensor
     
    Fuel injector harness
     
    Ignition coils
     
    HO2S
     

  8.  
  9. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors to the following:

    CMP sensor
     
    CMP actuator solenoid valve
     

  10.  
  11. Connect the engine wiring harness retainer to the camshaft cover.
  12.  
  13. Connect the engine wiring harness retainers to the power steering pump.
  14.  
  15. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector to the oil pressure sensor.
  16.  
  17. Connect the engine wiring harness retainer to the oil filter adapter.
  18.  
  19. Install the air cleaner resonator and outlet duct.
  20.  

3.5L Engine
  1. Remove the air cleaner resonator and outlet duct.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) from the oil pressure sensor (2).

  5.  Disconnect the engine wiring harness retainers (1) from the power steering pump (2).

  7. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors (1, 4) from the following:

    Exhaust Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor (5)
     
    CMP actuator solenoid valve (6)
     

  8.  
  9. Disconnect the engine wiring harness retainer (2) from the camshaft cover (3).

  10.  
  11. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors from the following:

    Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor (1)
     
    Fuel injector harness (2)
     
    Ignition coils (4)
     
    Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) (5)

  12.  
  13. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector from the intake camshaft position (CMP) sensor.

  15. Carefully disengage the engine wiring harness conduit from the camshaft cover, and position aside.

  17. Remove the ignition coil bolts.
  18.  
  19. Remove the ignition coils from the camshaft cover.

To install:


WARNING
Ensure the ignition coil seals are properly seated to the camshaft cover.

  1. Install the ignition coils into the camshaft cover.
  2.  
  3. Install the ignition coil bolts. Tighten the ignition coil bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Attach the engine wiring harness conduit to the camshaft cover.
  6.  
  7. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector to the intake CMP sensor.
  8.  
  9. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors to the following:

    ECT sensor
     
    Fuel injector harness
     
    Ignition coils
     
    HO2S
     

  10.  
  11. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors to the following:

    Exhaust CMP sensor
     
    CMP actuator solenoid valve
     

  12.  
  13. Connect the engine wiring harness retainer to the camshaft cover.
  14.  
  15. Connect the engine wiring harness retainers (1) to the power steering pump.
  16.  
  17. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) to the oil pressure sensor.
  18.  
  19. Install the air cleaner resonator and outlet duct.
