Crankshaft Damper (Balancer)

Removal & Installation



2.8L Engine
  1. Remove the cooling fan.
  2.  
  3. Remove the drive belt.
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Remove the service slot plug.
    WARNING
    The crankshaft balancer does not have a key-way; so the crankshaft could turn when tightening, causing an improper torque.

  9. Install the EN-46547 (1) into the flywheel teeth.
  10.  
  11. Lower the vehicle.

  13. Remove the crankshaft balancer bolt. Discard the bolt.

  15. Install the Special Tool J-41816-2 into the end of the crankshaft.
    NOTE
    Do not pull on outer edge of the crankshaft balancer.

  17. Use a 3 jaw puller to remove the crankshaft balancer.
  18.  
  19. Remove the Special Tool J-41816-2.
  20.  
  21. Clean and inspect the crankshaft balancer.

To install:

  1. Install the crankshaft balancer using the Special Tool J-41478.
  2.  
  3. Remove the Special Tool J-41478.

  5. Install the crankshaft balancer washer and NEW bolt.
    1. Tighten the crankshaft balancer bolt to 111 ft. lbs. (150 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Use the Special Tool J-45059 to tighten the crankshaft balancer bolt an additional 180°.

  6.  
  7. Raise and support the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Remove the Special Tool EN-46547(1) from the flywheel teeth.
  10.  
  11. Install the service slot plug.
  12.  
  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14.  
  15. Install the drive belt.
  16.  
  17. Install the cooling fan.
  18.
