Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    Be careful not to damage the crankshaft seal surface with the prying tool.



    Negative battery cable
     
    Transmission assembly and transfer case, if equipped
     
    Clutch assembly, if equipped
     
    Flywheel
     
    Crankshaft seal by prying it from out oil seal housing

To install:

Fig. Use Special Tool J-44215 to install the rear oil seal-2.8L and 3.5L engines.

  1. Install the new rear seal by lubricating it with engine oil and using a seal installer Special Tool J-44215. The spring side goes toward the engine and the seal will bottom out when installed fully.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Flywheel/clutch assembly or flexplate
     
    Transmission assembly and transfer case, if equipped
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  4.  
  5. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  6.
