Fuel Pressure Regulator

Removal & Installation



  1. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the fuel return hose/pipe (1) from the fuel rail.

  5. Disconnect the atmospheric vent hose (2) from the fuel pressure regulator (3).

  7. Remove the fuel pressure regulator screws (4, 5).
  8.  
  9. Pull the fuel pressure regulator (3) and O-ring seal (2) from the fuel rail (1). Discard the O-ring seal (2).
  10.  
  11. Pull the fuel rail return pipe (6) and O-ring seal (7) from the fuel pressure regulator (3). Discard the O-ring seal (7).
  12.  
  13. Inspect the regular filter screen for contamination. If contaminated, replace the fuel pressure regulator.

To install:

  1. Install the new fuel pressure regulator filter.
  2.  
  3. Lightly lubricate the O-ring seals with mineral oil GM P/N 9981704.
  4.  
  5. Install the new O-ring seals to the following:

    Fuel pressure regulator
     
    Fuel rail return pipe
     

  6.  
  7. Press the fuel rail return pipe and O-ring seal into the fuel pressure regulator.
  8.  
  9. Press the fuel pressure regulator and O-ring seal into the fuel rail.
  10.  
  11. Install the fuel pressure regulator screws. Tighten the fuel pressure regulator screws to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Connect the atmospheric vent hose to the fuel pressure regulator.
  14.  
  15. Connect the fuel return hose/pipe to the fuel rail.
  16.  
  17. Inspect for leaks:
    1. Turn ON the ignition for 2 seconds.
    2.  
    3. Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
    4.  
    5. Turn ON the ignition.
    6.  
    7. Inspect for fuel leaks.
    8.
