Removal & Installation

  1. Drain the cooling system.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle only high enough to access the thermostat housing (4) through the wheelhouse.
  4.  
  5. Remove the left wheelhouse liner by performing the following:
    1. Raise and support the vehicle.
    2.  
    3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
    4.  
    5. Remove the push-pins from the inner wheelhouse liner.
    6.  
    7. Remove the inner wheelhouse liner from the vehicle.
    8.  
    9. Remove the push-pins from the outer wheelhouse liner.
    10.  
    11. Remove the outer wheelhouse liner.

  7. Position the J-38185 to the clamp (3) in order to remove the radiator inlet hose (2) from the thermostat housing (4).

  9. Remove the thermostat housing bolts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the thermostat housing from the engine block.
  12.  
  13. Clean and inspect the thermostat housing.
  14.  
  15. Clean and inspect the sealing surface of the engine block.

To install:

  1. Position the thermostat housing to the engine block.
  2.  
  3. Install the thermostat housing bolts. Tighten the thermostat housing bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Position the Specal Tool J-38185 to the clamp (3) in order to connect the radiator inlet hose (2) to the thermostat housing (4).
  6.  
  7. Install the left wheelhouse liner as follows:

    Install the outer wheelhouse liner to the vehicle
     
    Install the rearward push-pin into the outer wheelhouse line
     
    Install the remaining push-pins into the outer wheelhouse liner
     
    Install the inner wheelhouse liner to the vehicle
     
    Install the push-pins into the inner wheelhouse liner
     
    Install the tire and wheel assembly
     
    Lower the vehicle
     

  8.  
  9. Fill the cooling system.
  10.  
  11. Inspect all sealing surfaces for leaks after starting the engine.
  12.
