Throttle Body

Removal & Installation



2.2L Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system
  4.  
  5. Remove the air intake duct.
  6.  
  7. Remove the accelerator cable from throttle body.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the throttle position sensor and the idle air control valve solenoid.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect all vacuum hoses below air horn.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect coolant lines.
  14.  
  15. Remove the mounting bolts retaining the throttle body the intake manifold.
  16.  
  17. Lift up the throttle body from the intake manifolds.
  18.  
  19. Remove the gaskets from the intake manifolds.
  20.  
  21. Remove the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve.
  22.  
  23. Remove the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS).
    WARNING
    Never use solvent of any type when you clean the gasket surfaces on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly. The gasket surface and the throttle body assembly may be damaged as a result.

  25. If the throttle body gasket needs to be released, remove any gasket material that may be stuck to the mating surfaces of the manifold. Do not leave any scratches in the aluminum casting.

To install:

  1. Install the IAC valve onto the throttle body.
  2.  
  3. Install the TPS onto the throttle body if necessary.
  4.  
  5. Place the gasket then the throttle body on the manifold.
  6.  
  7. Install the four mounting bolts and tighten to . Tighten the throttle body ft. lbs. (13.5 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the coolant line and secure them with clamps.
  10.  
  11. Connect all vacuum hoses and secure them with clamps if necessary.
  12.  
  13. Install the accelerator control cable bracket onto the throttle body.
  14.  
  15. Connect the accelerator control cable to throttle plate.
  16.  
  17. Attach the electrical connectors to the IAC valve and TPS.
  18.  
  19. Install the air intake duct.
  20.  
  21. Fill the cooling system with required coolant.
  22.  
  23. Connect the negative battery cable.
  24.  

3.2L Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the Throttle position (TP) sensor and Intake air temperature (IAT) sensor electrical connectors.

  7. Disconnect the vacuum hose below the air horn.
  8.  
  9. Remove the intake air duct clamp.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the intake air duct.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the coolant lines from the throttle body.
  14.  
  15. Remove the bolts from the common chamber.
  16.  
  17. Remove the throttle body from the common chamber.
  18.  
  19. Remove the gasket from the common chamber.
  20.  
  21. Remove the Throttle Position (TP) sensor.
    WARNING
    Never use solvent of any type when you clean the gasket surfaces on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly. The gasket surfaces and the throttle body assembly may be damaged as a result.

  23. If the throttle body gasket needs to be replaced, remove any gasket material that may be stuck to the mating surfaces of the manifold. Do not leave any scratches in the aluminum casting.

To install:

  1. Install the TP sensor.
  2.  
  3. Install the gasket on the common chamber.
  4.  
  5. Install the throttle body on the common chamber.
  6.  
  7. Secure the gasket and the throttle body with the four bolts.
    NOTE
    The vacuum lines must be properly routed under the throttle body before tightening the mounting bolts.

  8.  
  9. Tighten the throttle body mounting bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the coolant lines.
  12.  
  13. Connect all the vacuum lines.
  14.  
  15. Install the intake air duct.
  16.  
  17. Tighten the intake air duct clamp.
  18.  
  19. Connect all the electrical connectors:

  21. Install the accelerator cable assembly.
  22.  
  23. Fill the cooling system.
  24.  
  25. Connect the negative battery cable.
  26.  

3.5L Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the Throttle position (TP) sensor electrical connector
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the vacuum hose below the air horn.
  6.  
  7. Remove the intake air duct clamp.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the intake air duct.
  10.  
  11. Remove the bolts from the common chamber.
  12.  
  13. Remove the throttle body from the common chamber.
  14.  
  15. Remove the gasket from the common chamber.
    WARNING
    Never use solvent of any type when you clean the gasket surfaces on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly. The gasket surfaces and the throttle body assembly may be damaged as a result.

  17. If the throttle body gasket needs to be replaced, remove any gasket material that may be stuck to the mating surfaces of the manifold. Do not leave any scratches in the aluminum casting.

To install:

  1. Install the gasket on the common chamber.
  2.  
  3. Install the throttle body on the common chamber.
  4.  
  5. Secure the gasket and the throttle body with the four HEX bolts. Tighten the throttle body mounting bolts to 7.4 ft. lbs. (10 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect all the vacuum lines.
  8.  
  9. Install the intake air duct.
  10.  
  11. Tighten the intake air duct clamp.
  12.  
  13. Connect all the electrical connectors:

  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
