Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Support the rear axle with jackstands.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear shock absorbers.
  6.  

To install:

  1. Install the rear shock absorbers. Tighten the upper bolt to 14 ft. lbs. (20 Nm) for Rodeo and Rodeo Sport; 58 ft. lbs. (78 Nm) for Trooper. Tighten the lower bolt to 58 ft. lbs. (78 Nm) for Rodeo and Rodeo Sport; 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm) for Trooper.

  3. Remove the jackstands.
  4.  

2004 Models
With Intelligent Suspension
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the battery ground.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the wiring and remove the clip from the bracket.
  6.  
  7. Support the rear axle with jackstands.
  8.  
  9. Remove the rear shock absorbers.

To install:

  1. Install the rear shock absorbers. Tighten the upper bolt to 14 ft. lbs. (20 Nm). Tighten the lower bolt to 58 ft. lbs. (78 Nm).

  3. Connect the wiring.
  4.  
  5. Remove the jackstands.
  6.  

Without Intelligent Suspension
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Support the rear axle with jackstands.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear shock absorbers.

To install:

  1. Install the rear shock absorbers. Tighten the upper bolt to 14 ft. lbs. (20 Nm). Tighten the lower bolt to 58 ft. lbs. (78 Nm).

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Support the rear axle with jackstands.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear shock absorbers.

To install:

  1. Install the rear shock absorbers. Tighten the upper bolt to 14 ft. lbs. (20 Nm) and tighten the lower bolt to 58 ft. lbs. (78 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Remove the jackstands.
