Air Springs



Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the luggage compartment floor covering securing screws.
  4.  
  5. Remove the luggage compartment floor covering.
  6.  
  7. Remove the luggage compartment side trim panel.
  8.  
  9. Remove the air spring trim panel.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the air spring electrical connector.
    WARNING
    Loosen the pipe no more than one full turn to allow the stored air pressure to vent for a minimum of one minute.

  13. Detach the air pipe.
  14.  
  15. Remove the air spring retaining nuts.
  16.  
  17. Remove the rear wheel and tire assembly.
  18.  
  19. Detach the rear fender splash shield.
  20.  
  21. Remove the rear fender splash shield.
  22.  
  23. Remove the air spring bolt.
  24.  
  25. Displace the air spring lower mounting from the lower arm.
  26.  
  27. Displace the air spring from the upper mounting.
  28.  
  29. Position the air spring to the outside of the lower arm.
  30.  
  31. Remove the air spring.
  32.  

To install:


WARNING
Do not install an air spring if the pressure retaining valve has been removed or has become loose. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.


CAUTION
Do not install an air spring if the pressure retaining valve has been removed or has become loose. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the vehicle.


NOTE
New air springs have a shelf life of seven months from the date of manufacture. Do not install the air spring if the date marking exceeds this date.

  1. Install the air spring.
  2.  
  3. Position the air spring to the front of the lower arm.
  4.  
  5. Locate the air spring into the upper mount.
  6.  
  7. Locate the lower air spring mounting into the lower arm.
  8.  
  9. Install the air spring bolt. Tighten to 133 Nm.
  10.  
  11. Attach the rear fender splash shield.
  12.  
  13. Install the rear fender splash shield.
  14.  
  15. Install the rear wheel and tire assembly.
  16.  
  17. Install the rear air spring retaining nuts. Tighten to 25 Nm.
  18.  
  19. Attach the air pipe. Tighten to 5 Nm.
  20.  
  21. Connect the air spring electrical connector.
  22.  
  23. Install the air spring trim panel.
  24.  
  25. Install the luggage compartment side trim panel.
  26.  
  27. Install the luggage compartment floor covering.
  28.  
  29. Install the luggage compartment floor covering securing screws.
  30.  
  31. Connect the battery ground cable.
  32.  
  33. Start and run the engine for 2 minutes to allow the air spring to recharge and to allow the compressor to replenish the reservoir.

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the luggage compartment floor covering securing screws.
  4.  
  5. Remove the luggage compartment floor covering.
  6.  
  7. Remove the luggage compartment side trim panel.
  8.  
  9. Remove the air spring trim panel.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the air spring electrical connector.
    WARNING
    Loosen the pipe no more than one full turn to allow the stored air pressure to vent for a minimum of one minute.

  13. Detach the air pipe.
  14.  
  15. Remove the air spring retaining nuts.
  16.  
  17. Remove the rear wheel and tire assembly.
  18.  
  19. Reposition the stabilizer bar link cover.
  20.  
  21. Detach the stabilizer bar link.
  22.  
  23. Remove the air spring retaining bolt.
  24.  
  25. Remove the air spring.
  26.  

To install:

  3. Tighten the lower end to 133 Nm.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the stabilizer link to 48 Nm.
  6.  
  7. Reposition the stabilizer bar link cover.
  8.  
  9. Install the rear wheel and tire assembly.
  10.  
  11. Tighten the upper spring nuts to 25 Nm.
  12.  
  13. Tighten air pipe to 5 Nm.
  14.  
  15. Connect the air spring electrical connector.
  16.  
  17. Install the air spring trim panel.
  18.  
  19. Install the luggage compartment side trim panel.
  20.  
  21. Install the luggage compartment floor covering.
  22.  
  23. Install the luggage compartment floor covering securing screws.
  24.  
  25. Connect the battery ground cable.
  26.  
  27. Start and run the engine for 2 minutes to allow the air spring to recharge and to allow the compressor to replenish the reservoir.
