Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable

    Transaxle

  4.

NOTE
If the pressure plate is to be reused, matchmark its relationship to the flywheel.

  1. Using a Flywheel Locking tool, lock the flywheel.
  2.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

Pressure plate from the flywheel by loosening the bolts alternately, a little at a time, to prevent warpage

    Clutch disc

  4.

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

Clutch with the driven plate on the pressure plate so the spring cage is facing the pressure plate.

  2.
  3. Hold the clutch assembly against the flywheel, aligning the matchmarks and the dowel pins on the flywheel with the pressure plate. Insert an alignment shaft tool through the pressure plate and the driven plate into the crankshaft pilot bearing.
  4.
  5. Install the pressure plate to the flywheel. Torque the bolts evenly to 18 ft. lbs. (24 Nm), in a diagonal pattern, to avoid distortion.
  6.
  7. Remove the alignment shaft.
  8.

WARNING
The clutch release bearing in the front of the transaxle should be checked before reassembly. It is retained by 2 springs.
