Timing Chain Cover

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Upper radiator hose
     
    Accessory drive belt
     
    Water pump pulley
     
    Accessory drive belt tensioner
     
    Idler pulley
     
    Crankshaft damper
     
    Engine appearance covers
     
    Mass Air Flow (MAF) meter
     
    Air intake assembly
     
    Ignition coils
     
    Canister purge valve
     
    Valve covers
     
    Variable Valve Timing (VVT) solenoids
     
    Engine harness retaining clips
     
    Timing cover

To install:

  1. Apply sealant to the 8 joints on the engine face as shown.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Timing cover with new seals. Tighten the bolts in sequence to 96-120 inch lbs. (11-13 Nm).
     
    Engine harness retaining clips
     
    VVT solenoids
     
    Valve covers
     
    Canister purge valve
     
    Ignition coils
     
    Air intake assembly
     
    MAF meter
     
    Engine appearance covers
     
    Crankshaft damper
     
    Idler pulley
     
    Accessory drive belt tensioner
     
    Water pump pulley
     
    Accessory drive belt
     
    Upper radiator hose
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  4.  
  5. Fill the cooling system.
  6.  
  7. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  8.  

Removal & Installation



Except 2.5L And 3.0L Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Upper radiator hose
     
    Accessory drive belt
     
    Water pump pulley
     
    Accessory drive belt tensioner
     
    Idler pulley
     
    Crankshaft damper
     
    Engine appearance covers
     
    Mass Air Flow (MAF) meter
     
    Air intake assembly
     
    Ignition coils
     
    Canister purge valve
     
    Valve covers
     
    Variable Valve Timing (VVT) solenoids
     
    Engine harness retaining clips
     
    Timing cover

  1. Apply sealant to the 8 joints on the engine face as shown.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Timing cover with new seals. Tighten the bolts in sequence to 96-120 inch lbs. (11-13 Nm).

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.

  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Valve covers
     
    Oil pan
     
    Accessory drive belt
     
    Coolant hoses
     
    Crankshaft pulley
     
    Water pump
     
    Fuel supply manifold retaining bolt
     
    Accessory drive belt tensioner
     
    Engine harness from right-hand idler pulley
     
    Right and left idler pulleys
     
    Power steering pump upper retaining bolt
     
    Crankshaft position sensor connector
     
    Camshaft position sensors
     
    Front cover

  1. Apply sealant to the flanges on the engine face as shown.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Timing cover with new seals. Tighten the bolts in sequence to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).

NOTE
Bolts 3, 4, 10 and 11 are longer. Bolt 14 has a stud head.



Camshaft position sensors
 
Crankshaft position sensor connector
 
Power steering pump upper retaining bolt: Tighten to18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
 
Right and left idler pulleys: Tighten to18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
 
Engine harness to right-hand idler pulley
 
Accessory drive belt tensioner: Tighten to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).
 
Fuel supply manifold retaining bolt
 
Water pump: Tighten to18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
 
Crankshaft pulley
 
Coolant hoses
 
Accessory drive belt
 
Oil pan
 
Valve covers: Tighten to 88 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
 
Negative battery cable
 

  1. Fill the cooling system.
  2.  
  3. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  4.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Valve covers
     
    Oil pan
     
    Accessory drive belt
     
    Coolant hoses
     
    Crankshaft pulley
     
    Water pump
     
    Fuel supply manifold retaining bolt
     
    Accessory drive belt tensioner
     
    Engine harness from right-hand idler pulley
     
    Right and left idler pulleys
     
    Power steering pump upper retaining bolt
     
    Crankshaft position sensor connector
     
    Camshaft position sensors
     
    Front cover

  1. Apply sealant to the flanges on the engine face as shown.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:
    NOTE
    Bolts 3, 4, 10 and 11 are longer. Bolt 14 has a stud head.



    Timing cover with new seals. Tighten the bolts in sequence to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
     



    Camshaft position sensors
     
    Crankshaft position sensor connector
     
    Power steering pump upper retaining bolt: Tighten to18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
     
    Right and left idler pulleys: Tighten to18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
     
    Engine harness to right-hand idler pulley
     
    Accessory drive belt tensioner: Tighten to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).

    Water pump: Tighten to18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).

  5. Fill the cooling system.
  6.  
  7. Start the engine and check for leaks.
