1971-75 Models
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2.  
  3. On models through 1972, unscrew the nut from the front of the instrument panel and remove the switch. Some early production Utility models had a switch held in place by a bezel and tension spring, rather than a threaded bezel.
  4.  
  5. On 1973-75 models, reach behind the panel and press the switch in against the spring. Turn the bezel counterclockwise to release.
  6.  
  7. Lower the switch and detach the wiring.
  8.  
  9. Reverse the procedure for installation.
  10.

1976-86 Models

The ignition switch is on top of the lower part of the steering column, inside the vehicle.

  1. Put the key in the lock and turn to the OFF/UNLOCKED position.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  4.  
  5. Detach the wire connectors at the switch.
  6.  
  7. Remove the switch screws.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the actuating rod from the switch and remove the switch.
  10.  
  11. Move the switch slider all the way down the column. Move it back toward the steering wheel two clicks to the center OFF/UNLOCKED position.
  12.  
  13. Engage the column actuating rod in the switch slider and fasten the switch down.
  14.  
  15. Connect the wire connectors, then the battery ground cable.
