REMOVAL & INSTALLATION 4-134 Engine

  1. Disconnect the hoses at the pump. Drain the cooling system.
  2.  


CAUTION
When draining engine coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted to ethylene glycol antifreeze and could drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantity. Always drain coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or is several years old.

  1. Remove the fan belt.
  2.  
  3. Remove the fan and hub.
  4.  
  5. Unbolt and remove the pump.
  6.  
  7. Installation is the reverse of removal. Always use a new gasket coated with sealer. Torque the pump bolts to 17 ft. lb.

  1. Drain the cooling system.

  5. Remove the power steering pump bracket.
  6.  
  7. Remove the fan and shroud.
  8.  
  9. Unbolt and remove the pump.
  10.  
  11. Clean the mating surfaces thoroughly.
  12.  
  13. Using a new gasket, install the pump and torque the bolts to 13 ft. lb.
  14.  
  15. Install all other parts in reverse order of removal.

  7. Clean the gasket mating surfaces thoroughly. Coat both sides of the new gasket with sealer. Install the pump and torque the mounting bolts to 15-20 ft. lb. Install all other parts in reverse order of removal.

On models with a single serpentine drive belts, the pump is reverse rotating and is stamped with rev or reverse. Never interchange these pumps with standard pumps.

  1. Unbolt and remove the pump. Discard the gasket.
  2.  
  3. Installation is the reverse of removal. Always use a new gasket coated with sealer. Torque the bolts to 13-18 ft. lb.
